What a year! When we last produced a Bluegrass Cafe in the WHUS studio on Sunday, March 8th, we had no idea it would be the last live-as-it's-happening broadcast for 2020. After a delay of several weeks, it was decided that we could start producing radio programs at home using a program called Audacity and drawing from our own music collections, so the first pre-recorded Bluegrass Cafe aired on Sunday, April 19th. Whoa! Thirty-six weeks later, the recording process at home has become slightly easier, but still...we look forward to the day when in-studio, live radio shows can again be the norm. In the meantime, though, we'll keep plugging along with these at-home shows, so hope you enjoy them.
Since this particular Bluegrass Cafe was produced a couple of days before Christmas, as we were recording, the passing on Christmas Day of guitar legend and Bluegrass Hall of Famer, Tony Rice, had not yet happened. We will be gathering some favorite music from Tony's long career over the next few days to share on our first BGC broadcast of 2021.
In the meantime, this week's Bluegrass Cafe included lots of fine music. There was an entire hour devoted to some favorite music from recordings released in 2020, featuring performers such as the Feinberg Brothers, FastTrack, Becky Buller, Junior Sisk, Jamie & J.B. Dailey, Stephen Mougin, Special Consensus, High Fidelity, and a few others. Even though there really wasn't much of a festival season for this year, there was still some excellent recorded music to be heard.
We also included several songs from late-December birthday celebrants, including the late Curly Seckler, Mike Auldridge, Melvin Goins, Alan O'Bryant, and Joe Diffie. And since we are technically only on the 3rd Day of Christmas, we included a few more Christmas songs on our playlist. Hope you enjoyed them.
No doubt about it -- 2020 has been a dismal year in many ways. However, I am very grateful that I can still present a full three-hour program to you each week. My wish is that 2021 is a much-improved year for all of us!
