"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 8/29/2021

This past weekend was pretty rough for folks who love music, as it marked the passing of three music legends:  one who was a member of the Bluegrass Hall of Fame (Bill Emerson), another was a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame (Don Everly), and the third is enshrined in both the Country Music and Bluegrass Halls of Fame (Tom T. Hall).  All three created thousands of hours of wonderful music, and we were honored to share a good portion of it during our Bluegrass Cafe on Sunday.

We let the music speak for itself during this broadcast, and you can bet that we will continue to share music from all three of these wonderful performers.

Thanks for listening, and enjoy the week!

"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 8/22/2021

This past Sunday's Bluegrass Cafe happened to air on a day that was highlighted by a visit from Tropical Storm Henri.  While the majority of the area fared well as far as power outages from Henri's visit, at my home in eastern CT, there was no power or Internet until Monday.  As a result, I didn't get a chance to post the radio playlist until later in the week (obviously).  Better late than never, I guess...

For our show on August 22nd, we shared a healthy portion of newer Bluegrass music, with selections from
Merle Monroe, David Peterson & 1946, Unspoken Tradition, Jeremy Stephens, Darin & Brooke Aldridge, Balsam Range, Fast Track, and a new gospel single from the one-and-only Dolly Parton (with a backing quartet of Larry Cordle, Carl Jackson, Jerry Salley, and Bradley Walker).

We also had a lengthy birthday tribute to the late Carter Stanley (August 27, 1925 - December 1, 1966), and shared birthday songs in honor of Bluegrass Hall of Famer, J.D. Crowe (born August 27, 1937) and Country Music Hall of Famer, Connie Smith (born August 14, 1941).

Hope you had a great week, and we'll look forward to joining you again this Sunday, August 29th!

See you then!

Amy O.

"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 8/15/2021

Michael Cleveland tore it up
on Friday night at Podunk.
What a great Bluegrass weekend!  Hope you were able to check out the Podunk Bluegrass Festival over the last few days.  Whether or not you were able to get there and enjoy the wide array of Bluegrass performers, we started Sunday's 68th home-made Bluegrass Cafe with selections from a few of the wonderful acts you could find on Podunk's Main Stage on Friday and Saturday, including the Po' Ramblin' Boys, Bill & the Belles, Rock Hearts, and Michael Cleveland.

There's no doubt that the late Country Music Hall of Famer Buck Owens and his Bakersfield Sound have greatly influenced many Bluegrass performers over the years.  To belatedly celebrate what would have been Buck's 92nd birthday (born August 12, 1929), we played several Bluegrass covers of Buck tunes.  We also included a number from the late Don Rich -- Buck's right-hand man and the leader of the Buckaroos -- who was born on August 15, 1941, and died tragically in a motorcycle accident on July 7, 1974.

We had a bit of newer music to share, too, including the new gospel record from the Lonesome River Band, as well as 2021 releases from Deanie Richardson, Tina Adair, Danny Paisley & the Southern Grass, Wildfire, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, two cuts from the "Industrial Strength Bluegrass" collection, the Plate Scrapers, Wildfire, the Larry Stephenson Band, Chris Jones & the Night Drivers, Larry Sparks, and a Connecticut band known as Still Pickin'.

Hope you enjoyed the show, and please join me once again next Sunday afternoon, 4-7PM.

Enjoy the week!

Amy O.

"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 8/8/2021

For this day's 67th recorded-at-home Bluegrass Cafe, we included music in celebration of a few different August birthdays.  The celebrants included two members of the Country Music Hall of Fame, a wonderful Bluegrass songwriter, a "wild & crazy" banjo picker, and the King of Bluegrass.

We also shared songs from a couple of performers who will be appearing at the upcoming Podunk Bluegrass Festival in Goshen, Connecticut on August 12th through 15th.  This early in the week, the weather forecast looks okay, so let's hope it stays that way.  If you'd like to check out the festival, please do!  More information can be found here.

Have a great week!  We'll be looking for you once again next Sunday afternoon, 4-7PM.

"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 8/1/2021

And just like that, it's August 1st!  Our 66th homemade Bluegrass Cafe on this first Sunday of August included lots of music from the Stonemans -- the third 2021 inductee into the Bluegrass Hall of Fame (along with Alison Krauss and Lynn Morris).  We also remembered quite a few August birthdays, so hope you were able to join us!

The birthdays we celebrated included performers as varied as smiling fiddler Mac Magaha, the two Spinney Brothers, and "The Voice" -- Vern Gosdin.  If you happen to celebrate your birthday in early August, Happy Birthday wishes go out to you!

Hope you enjoyed Sunday's show, and that you'll consider tuning in once more next week.  4PM is the start time for 3 big hours of the best in Bluegrass.

Have a good week!

Amy O.
