"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 7/26/2026

Our Bluegrass Cafe on the last Sunday of July featured more music from three of the four newest inductees into the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame -- Byron Berline, the Lost & Found, and the Nashville Bluegrass Band.  We also welcomed a couple of requests, and included a good bit of newer music, with selections from Junior Sisk, the Larry Stephenson Band, Alex Leach, Unspoken Tradition, Donna Ulisse, David Parmley (with a song written by eastern Connecticut's own Gary Davis!), and Buddy Melton.

Hope you were able to join us on the radio, but if you missed the broadcast, you have one more week to listen to the archived show on the WHUS website.  Find it here:
Bluegrass Cafe Sun Jul 26 with Amy Orlomoski on WHUS Radio

We'll look for you tomorrow afternoon -- Sunday, August 2nd -- from 4-7PM.  We've got two one-day passes for the Podunk Bluegrass Festival to give away, so be sure to listen!

See you then -
Amy O.

"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 7/19/2026

Our Bluegrass Cafe broadcast last Sunday was a whole lot of fun, as we were able to share music from three of the newest inductees into the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame:  the Lost & Found, the Nashville Bluegrass Band, and the late fiddler, Byron Berline.  (The fourth Inductee for 2026 is the late Barry Poss, founder of Sugar Hill Records).  All four of these inductees will be honored in ceremonies at the International Bluegrass Music Association Awards Show in Chattanooga on October 22nd.  Congratulations to all!

We also took about 30 minutes to have a telephone chat with the fun and talented
Becky Buller, as she will be bringing her band to play as part of the Podunk Bluegrass Festival in Goshen, CT on Saturday, August 8th.  We shared lots of music from Becky -- both songs she wrote for other performers and herself, as well as selections from her IBMA nominated Album of the Year, "Songs That Sing Me."  Hope you've got plans to join me at the delightful Podunk Bluegrass Festival at the Goshen Fairgrounds.  The full schedule of performers can be found here.  See you there!

Join me again on the radio tomorrow afternoon, won't you?  We'll be there with another edition of Bluegrass Cafe from 4-7PM.

"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 7/12/2026

Sunday's
Bluegrass Cafe featured a whole lot of music and talk about a very important figure in the world of Washington, D.C. Bluegrass:  Buzz Busby (September 6, 1933 - January 5, 2003).  We were delighted to have a telephone chat with two authors who spent 5+ years working on a newly-published book called Buzz Busby:  Father Of Washington, D.C. Bluegrass (University of Illinois Press, 2026).  Kip Lornell and Tom Mindte told us a bit about the writing and research process that went behind this book, as well as the reasons why Buzz Busby will always be so important in the history of Bluegrass music.  If you are all interested in learning to know more about the history of Bluegrass Music, you need to find a copy of this book to read.  Seek it out, if you can.  And, of course, thank you to both Kip and Tom who joined us from different states for this telephone conversation.

We had a tiny bit of new (or semi-new) music to share today with a tune from the newly-reissued 25th anniversary edition of "Del And The Boys" by the Del McCoury Band, and brand-new selections from the Po' Ramblin' Boys, Alan Bibey with Ronnie McCoury & Sierra Hull, Bronwyn, and Greg Blake.

Hope you have a nice week!  We'll look forward to having you join us once again for next Sunday's Bluegrass Cafe.

"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 7/5/2026

During Sunday's Bluegrass Cafe, we did a whole lot of celebrating and remembering.

We remembered:  so
me of the Bluegrass contributions of James Monroe (March 15, 1941 - June 24, 2026) and Bluegrass Hall of Fame member Donna Stoneman (February 7, 1934 - June 28, 2026), as well as the Civil War Battle of Gettysburg in song (battle was fought July 1-3, 1865).

We celebrated:  the 250th birthday of the United States of America; birthdays of the "Uncle of Bluegrass," Charlie Monroe (July 4, 1903 - September 27, 1975)

and Bluegrass Hall of Famer,
Peter Rowan (born July 4, 1943).  We also celebrated the 80th birthday of the great Jimmy Gaudreau (born July 3, 1946), easily the most important contributor to Bluegrass Music from the State of Rhode Island...and so much more than just that!

Sure hope you were able to join us for this week's radio visit.

Don't forget to join us for our
Bluegrass Cafe next Sunday, as we're going to be visiting with the authors of a top-notch new book all about Buzz Busby.  Join us on July 12th for our telephone chat with Kip Lornell and Tom Mindte who'll tell us about their book called Buzz Busby:  Father Of Washington DC Bluegrass.  It should be fun, so mark your calendars and join us.

Have a good week!

Amy O.
