"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 4/23/2023

During Sunday's Bluegrass Cafe, we shared lots of wonderful music, including a tune or two in honor Earth Day.  Hope you were able to join us!

Our main focus on Sunday was sharing music from several members of the Rhode Island Bluegrass Alliance (RIBA) Hall of Fame.  Of the seventeen members who have been inducted since this honor was established in 2016, we heard music from nine of them during our program.  This coming Sunday -- April 30th -- the RIBA folks will be holding their 2023 induction ceremonies, during which four pioneers (Gert Hall, Al Hawkes, Randy Hawkins, and the Lilly Brothers) will be honored.  The inductees for 2023 include the delightful Neon Valley Boys -- one of my favorite local bands of the 1980s -- and, as you likely have heard by now, me.  How do I fit in with the likes of Fred Pike, Sam Tidwell, and Jimmy Gaudreau?  Honestly, I'm not sure, but I'm delighted to be there!  😁 If you'd like to know more about the RIBA event this coming Sunday, click here for more information or visit RIBluegrass.org

Oh, and if everything goes as planned, you'll get to hear an archived Bluegrass Cafe from May 2021 during our 4-7PM timeslot on April 30th.  That's the plan, anyway.

We also included some newer music, this week from Tina Adair, Marty Raybon, Chris Jones & the Night Drivers, (Wayne & Kristin Scott) Benson, and the Special Consensus, as well as 2023 releases from Boone & Foster, Michael Cleveland & Flamekeeper, Jason Barie, Joe Mullins & the Radio Ramblers, and Larry Sparks.

We'll be back on the air with you with a live program on May 7th.

Have a good week!

Amy O.

"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 4/16/2023

Sunday's Bluegrass Cafe was one with no particular direction, so we turned it into a "Spotlight Letter" Day.  This time around, the letter was "S," and to that end, we found recordings from 30+ "S" performers to share.  To qualify, either the performer's surname or their band name had to start with an "S."  Among the featured performers were the Stanley Brothers (of course!), Herschel Sizemore, Larry Stephenson, the Spinney Brothers, Special Consensus, Billy Strings, Straight Drive, Larry Sparks, Sister Sadie, and several others.  We stretched things a bit, too, and included two fine Bluegrass Hall of Fame sets of partners:  Earl Scruggs & Lester Flatt, as well as Red Smiley & Don Reno.

We included a bit of newer and recent music, as well, with newer recordings from Rick Faris, Cedar Hill, the Goodwin Brothers, and Boone & Foster, and recent selections from Greg Blake & Hometown, Joe Mullins & the Radio Ramblers, and Still Pickin'.

And we couldn't forget the upcoming birthday of the great Doyle Lawson (born April 20, 1944), either, so we played a couple of songs from the original Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver.

Hope you enjoyed the show, and that
you'll consider joining us once again on Sunday afternoon from 4-7PM.

Enjoy the week!

"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 4/9/2023

Happy Easter!  Appropriately, approximately one-third of our Bluegrass Cafe was filled with songs all about the Easter Story, from the Crucifixion to the Resurrection.  Hope you all had a pleasant day.

Our brand-new music this week was a little bittersweet, as we received a new CD from the Connecticut trio, Still Pickin'.  This group included Jim Sharpley, a fine musician who died suddenly in March.  Jim was a good friend who wintered in Florida, but every Spring, he would return to Connecticut and come to visit me at my library.  We would talk about the Podunk Bluegrass Festival in August (where Jim was the Stage Manager, and I helped with the MC work), and Jim would generally bring me the latest CD from Still Pickin'.  Unfortunately, that visit won't happen this Spring, but I'm very grateful to Jim's bandmate, Dennis Sheridan, as he sent WHUS a copy of the newest CD.  Thanks to him.

Other newer music we enjoyed this week came from Larry Sparks, the Gibson Brothers, Jason Barie, Rock Hearts, Greg Blake, Billy Strings, and the Kody Norris Show.

We'll be back on the air with you again this coming Sunday, 4-7PM.  Hope you can join us...

Until then, have a great week!

Amy O.

"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 4/2/2023

Before it's Sunday, again, it's time to share the playlist from our Bluegrass Cafe from last Sunday, April 2nd!

The Hag & Emmylou with Willie Nelson, too.

Included in our lineup for last Sunday were a couple of tunes in celebration of the birthday of
Emmylou Harris (born April 2, 1947), as well as a Bluegrass remembrance of the great Merle Haggard (April 6, 1937 - April 6, 2016).  We also shared newer music from several folks, including Michael Cleveland, the Kody Norris Show, David Parmley, Greg Blake, Lorraine Jordan & Carolina Road, Mile Twelve, Lindley Creek, Danny Paisley with Sage Palser, Jason Barie, Larry Sparks, and Jason Carter.

Hope you've got plans to join us for a live Bluegrass Cafe on Easter Sunday, as we'll be there!

Happy Easter!
