"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 1/3/2021

Happy New Year!  Hope you're enjoying your 2021, so far.  

Our first show of the new year included a whole bunch of songs in tribute to the late Tony Rice, who died at the age of 69 on Christmas Day.  To say Tony Rice has influenced a generation of musicians would be a tremendous understatement.  Through his solo recordings to records made with occasional duet partners (Ricky Skaggs and Norman Blake), with J.D. Crowe & the New South, with his brothers, with the Bluegrass Album Band, and his appearances as a guest on other performers' records, Tony Rice left an indelible impression on Bluegrass and acoustic music that will be felt forever.  We listened to lots of music from the amazing songbook of this Bluegrass Hall of Famer on Sunday, and we will continue to do so in future editions of our Bluegrass Cafe.  Rest in peace, Tony Rice, and thanks for the music.

We also remembered the late Hank Williams with several Bluegrass renditions of his songs.  Hank famously died at the age or 29 on his way to performing a show on New Year's Day in 1953.  His incredible songs live on in many styles of music, including Bluegrass.

And we couldn't have a show without remembering the legendary Earl Scruggs, who was born on January 6, 1924.  Would there be Bluegrass without Earl?
