"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 9/24/2023

Just as we honored Hank Williams on what would have been his 100th birthday on September 17th, on this past Sunday's Bluegrass Cafe, we remembered the King of Country Music, Roy Acuff (September 15, 1903 - November 23, 1992).  Mr. Acuff was definitely not a Bluegrass performer, but, like the music of Hank Williams, a whole lot of Roy Acuff's songs have been covered by Bluegrass performers over the years.  We shared a dozen songs written, performed, or made famous by Roy Acuff over the course of our three hour program.  Hope you enjoyed them.

New music is part of our programming most weeks, and during Sunday's show we shared some new music from the Henhouse Prowlers, as well as Nothin' Fancy and Liam Purcell & Cane Mill Road.  We also shared recent music from the Kody Norris Show, the Tim Raybon Band, East Nash Grass, Molly Tuttle & Golden Highway, Jason Barie, and High Fidelity.

We also brought along several LPs to share this week, including the Osborne Brothers ("Up This Hill And Down"), J.D. Crowe & the New South ("You Can Share My Blanket"), Lester Flatt & Mac Wiseman ("Lester 'n' Mac"), Fred Pike ("Fred Pike And The Flat-Top Guitar"), and the Country Gentlemen ("Live From The Stage Of The Roanoke Bluegrass Festival").

"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 9/17/2023

On the 100th birthday anniversary of the one and only Hank Williams (September 17, 1923 - January 1, 1953), we couldn't help but pay tribute to the
man and his music during a good portion of our Bluegrass Cafe.  We included both covers of songs Hank recorded and music from the man, himself.  Seventy years after his passing, the music world is still feeling the impact of Hank's troubled, short, very musical life...and we will forever be grateful.

"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 9/10/2023

After two weeks of missed broadcasts, I had a lot of ground to cover during Sunday's Bluegrass Cafe.  We had birth anniversaries of three Bluegrass legends to celebrate, it was Grandparents Day, and we had a whole lot of brand-new music to share.  It was a show filled with lots of great music -- hope you were able to join us!

Probably 3/4 of the songs that made up Sunday's playlist were from the song catalogs of Carter Stanley (August 27, 1925 - December 1, 1966), J.D. Crowe (August 27, 1937 - December 24, 2021), and, of course, that of the Father of Bluegrass, Bill Monroe (September 13, 1911 - September 9, 1996).  

And there was lots of new music to share, too.  In addition to two songs from the soon-to-be-released gospel recording from High Fidelity ("Music In My Soul"), we heard selections from Full Cord, the Tim Raybon Band, Donna Ulisse, the Edgar Loudermilk Band, Robert Hale, Cory Walker, and Kelley John Gibson.  We also played a couple of songs from the brand-new recording from Connecticut band, Audrey Mae.

We'll look forward to having you dine us once again next Sunday afternoon for another edition of our Bluegrass Cafe.
