"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 9/25/2022

We had a big time celebrating several birthdays during our last Bluegrass Cafe for the month of September.  There were lots of Bluegrass birthdays, and we couldn't let the show pass without remembering the mid-September birthday of true country music legend.

Among the Bluegrass birthday celebrants in the spotlight were the late Josh Graves, as well as Sierra Hull, Ronnie Reno, Laurie Lewis, and Phil Rosenthal.  We also played several songs in honor of the Bluegrass Hall of Famer, Larry Sparks, who turned 75 years old on the day our show aired (September 25th).

We also remembered a true country music legend, the Hall of Famer -- and one of everyone's favorite singers -- George Jones.  Many Bluegrass performers have covered the material of George Jones over the years, and we shared quite a number of them on Sunday.

And, of course, there was new music, too, this time from the Larry Stephenson Band, Wildfire, Starlett & Big John, Nick Chandler & Delivered, Big Howdy, Route 3, and Greg Blake.

Hope you enjoyed the show, and please consider joining me once again this coming Sunday from 4-7PM.

See you then!

Amy O.

"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 9/18/2022

Sunday's Bluegrass Cafe was all about celebrating two bona fide Country Music legends, as well as remembering a mandolin master.  We also included a couple of brand-new songs from fiddle players named Jason.

Our Country Music legends included the King of Country Music,
Roy Acuff (September 15, 1903 - November 23, 1992), and, of course, the one and only Hank Williams (September 17, 1923 - January 1, 1953).  Both of these performers have had their material covered by numerous performers in the world of Bluegrass Music, and so, we shared quite a few covers for both Roy and Hank.  We even included a couple of songs written about Hank.

We couldn't forget to remember the great Herschel Sizemore (August 6, 1935 - September 9, 2022).  This mandolin master performed with many bands over the years, and we shared some of his music made on his own, as well as with the Dixie Gentlemen, a short-lived group called Country Grass, and the Bluegrass Cardinals.

In addition, there were two brand new songs from two Bluegrass fiddlers named Jason (Jason Barie and Jason Carter).  Other newer music was enjoyed from the likes of Greg Blake & Hometown, East Nash Grass, Blue Highway, Authentic Unlimited, and Peter Rowan.

Hope you're having a fine week.  Enjoy the rest of it, and we'll see you on Sunday!

"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 9/11/2022

We're a bit late in getting this playlist posted, but last Sunday's Bluegrass Cafe was pretty Monroe-centric, as we celebrated a bit early the 111th birth anniversary of the Father of Bluegrass Music, Bill Monroe.  We remembered Big Mon with songs performed by him, songs written by him and covered by others, and songs written about him (and his mandolin).  Suffice it to say that there would not be a Bluegrass Cafe were in not for the life of William Smith Monroe.

Bill Monroe's was not the only birthday we celebrated on Sunday.  We also shared songs from other mid-September birthday celebrants, including Lou Reid, Michael Cleveland, Bill Harrell, and the gone-too-soon Aaron "Frosty" Foster.

A bit of newer music was included, too, with selections from Nothin' Fancy, Mason Via, Jr Williams, Anthony Howell, Amanda Cook, Apple & Setser, and Larry Efaw & the Bluegrass Mountaineers.

Hope you enjoyed the show, and please consider joining me once again this coming Sunday, 4-7PM.

See you then!

Amy O.

"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 8/28/2022

Our final Bluegrass Cafe for August 2022 included a healthy portion of new music, as well as tunes celebrating a couple of noted August birthdays (on a personal note, this included the 93rd birthday of my father, Alton Orlomoski).  Hope you were able to join us.

Among the new music, we shared selections from recent projects by Mickey Galyean & Cullen's Bridge, Hammertowne, Frank Solivan & Dirty Kitchen, Volume Five, Seth Mulder & Midnight Run, Junior Sisk, the Crowe Brothers, Audie Blaylock & Redline, Shelton & Williams, Greg Blake & Hometown, and Bob Minner.

Noted August birthdays we celebrated included that of Jeanette Williams (born August 28, 1965) and singer/songwriter Shawn Camp (born August 29, 1966).  We also remembered two fine Bluegrass musicians who passed in August:  Steve Gulley (September 20, 1962 - August 18, 2000) and Bluegrass Hall of Famer, Bill Emerson (January 22, 1938 - August 21, 2021).

A program note:  I will be away for Labor Day weekend, so the plan is for WHUS to air a "vintage," home-recorded edition of our Bluegrass Cafe, first broadcast for you on September 6, 2020.  Hopefully, that will happen.  Whether it does or if for some reason it doesn't, I plan to be back broadcasting live in the WHUS studio on Sunday, September 11, 2022.  See you then!

Enjoy your Labor Day weekend!
