"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 8/21/2022

The focus of Sunday's Bluegrass Cafe was on celebrating noted mid-to-late August birthdays -- two of Bluegrass music legends, and three more performers who are members of the Country Music Hall of Fame.  If all of that wasn't enough, we had several new selections to share, too.  Hope you were able to join us!

First off, we remembered the August 27th birthdays of two important members of the Bluegrass Hall of Fame:
Carter Stanley (August 27, 1925 - December 1, 1966) and J.D. Crowe (August 27, 1937 - December 24, 2021).  We also included music honoring three members of the Country Music Hall of Fame:  Harold Reid of the Statler Brothers, Porter Wagoner, and Buck Owens.

New music played an important part of our show on Sunday, too.  There were selections from several brand-new or soon-to-be released recordings from New England band Rock Hearts, as well as Greg Blake & Hometown, Seth Mulder & Midnight Run, Becky Buller, Mickey Harris, Leon Morris, Chris Davis, and Authentic Unlimited.

Hope you enjoyed Sunday's show.  We'll see you again next Sunday (8/28) from 4-7PM.

Enjoy the week!

"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 8/14/2022

There was some top-notch live Bluegrass to be heard in Connecticut last weekend at the Podunk Bluegrass Festival in Goshen, and we made sure to share selections from several Podunk performers during Sunday's Bluegrass Cafe.  Hope you were able to get to Goshen to enjoy the 25th edition of Podunk.  It was a great one!  Big thank you to the Podunk organizing committee for putting together such a fabulous festival!  (If you weren't able to be in Goshen, we shared music from several Podunk performers, including Seth Mulder & Midnight Run, the Kody Norris Show, Joe Mullins & the Radio Ramblers, Williamson Branch, the Alex Leach Band, and Dan Tyminski.

We had a lot of birthday celebrating to do on Sunday, as well.  To that end, we shared songs in celebration of four members of the Country Music Hall of Fame (Phil Balsley of the Statler Brothers, Webb Pierce, Connie Smith, and Mel Tillis).  Three of these folks had birthdays on August 8th.

There was also nearly a half-hour's worth of music in celebration of the August 10th birth anniversary of the self-proclaimed King Of Bluegrass, Jimmy Martin (August 10, 1927 - May 14, 2005).

Have yourself a wonderful week, and we'll see you again on Sunday afternoon at 4PM for our Bluegrass Cafe!

"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 8/7/2022

Sunday's Bluegrass Cafe featured a whole bunch of fine music, including some birthday celebrations, some new music, some classic favorites, and a remembrance of a Bluegrass veteran who passed in late July.

In the latter category, we remembered the late Dick Smith (October 4, 1943 - July 28, 2022).  We shared music from three different bands with whom Mr. Smith had worked over the years, including the Country Store, Del McCoury & the Dixie Pals, and the Country Gentlemen.  There is a Gents' video that was recently shared on YouTube which features the group's 1984 lineup of Waller/Yates/Gaudreau/Smith.  If you have time to watch it, here's the link:  https://youtu.be/XfocBkA9x7s

New and recent music was part of the mix on Sunday, and we included selections from Russ Carson, the Stoney Creek Bluegrass Band, Route 3, Darren Beachley, Corey Zink, Dave Adkins, Chris Jones & the Night Drivers, Laura Orshaw, Joe Mullins & the Radio Ramblers, and the Tennessee Bluegrass Band.

Hope you were able to tune in on Sunday.  Also, hope to see you this weekend at the 25th edition of the Podunk Bluegrass Festival in Goshen, CT.  It should be a dandy!

Have a good week!

"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 7/31/2022

Ninety-five years ago this week on August 1, 1927, A.P. Carter, his wife Sara, and his sister-in-law Maybelle (who was also Sara's cousin), travelled to Bristol, Tennessee to make their very first recordings.  During our Bluegrass Cafe, we spent over an hour celebrating the music of the Carter Family with lots of Bluegrass covers from many different performers, as well as music from two generations of this legendary family.

In addition to Carter Family music, there was a healthy portion of new music to share, as well.  To that end, we heard brand-new (or very recent) music from Joe Mullins & the Radio Ramblers, Chad Darou, the Stillhouse Junkies, Ben James, the Tennessee Bluegrass Band, the Lonesome River Band, Peter Rowan, the Gibson Brothers, Laura Orshaw, and the Po' Ramblin' Boys.

Hope you were able to join us on Sunday, and we look forward to having you along for the ride once again this coming Sunday from 4-7PM.

Enjoy the week, and stay cool!
