"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 8/23/2026

It has been a sad week in Bluegrass music with the passing of two 2026 inductees into the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame taking place on the very same day:  Allen Mills (November 4, 1937-August 18, 2026) and Pat Enright (April 22, 1945-August 18, 2026).  Each of these gentlemen were founding members of their best-known respective bands (Lost & Found and the Nashville Bluegrass Band), and have left behind important legacies in the World of Bluegrass.  As befitting, we remembered each of them with lots of fine music during Sunday's Bluegrass Cafe.

There was a little bit of brand-new music to add to the mix on Sunday, as well, with "hot off the presses" tunes from High Fidelity, the Po' Ramblin' Boys, Chris Jones & the Night Drivers, and Nick Chandler & Delivered.

Next Sunday's Bluegrass Cafe will be an COVID-era repeat, so just listen to the music and ignore the talk!  I will be away for the week, but will join you once again on September 6th.

"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 8/16/2026

The Bluegrass Cafe for August 16th included lots of fine music, including newer selections from Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, Butch Waller, and the Grascals, among others.  We also took a look back at nine of the songs which graced the National Bluegrass Survey (according to Bluegrass Unlimited Magazine) back in August 2013.  Some of those bands represented in 2013 no longer exist in 2026 (Flatt Lonesome, the Boxcars, Joe Mullins & the Radio Ramblers), but some are still going strong (Volume Five, the Gibson Brothers, Danny Paisley & the Southern Grass).  For the curious, the #1 song on the BU National Bluegrass Survey in August 2013 was Junior Sisk & Ramblers Choice and the super clever, "The Story Of The Day That I Died."

"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 8/9/2026

A full week has passed since our August 9th Bluegrass Cafe!  This show contained lots of music from fine performers who'd appeared at the 29th Podunk Bluegrass Festival in Goshen last weekend.  We also included a little bit of newer music, including a brand-new single from the revived Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, as well as newer music from Bronwyn, Bob Minner, the Kody Norris Show, and Red Camel Collective.

And we couldn't not celebrate the early August birthdays of both the King of Bluegrass, Jimmy Martin (August 10, 1927 - May 14, 2005) and Country Music Hall of Famer, Buck Owens (August 12, 1929 - March 25, 2006).

"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 8/2/2026

During this past Sunday's Bluegrass Cafe, we (somewhat) belatedly celebrated the 99th anniversary of the very first recordings of the Carter Family made beginning August 1, 1927.  This historic event took place in Bristol, Tennessee (right across the line from Bristol, Virginia) and was recorded by the Victor Talking Machine Company.  Who would have imagined in 1927 that the music of the Carter Family (and others) recorded during the Bristol Sessions would have such a long-lasting impact?  We shared some of those first recordings made by A.P., Sarah, and Maybelle Carter, and we also included several Bluegrass covers of Carter Family classics.

The show also featured lots of music from several performers on the schedule for the 2026 Podunk Bluegrass Festival in Goshen, CT.  Among them:  the Wood Box Heroes, Becky Buller, the Gibson Brothers, the Price Sisters, Rick Faris, and JigJam.  In addition, we gave away two single-day passes for the festival, thanks to the Podunk folks.  

New music, as always, was included, too.  This week, there was brand-new music from the forthcoming record release by Bronwyn (formerly, Bronwyn Keith-Hynes), as well as recent music from Daniel Grindstaff & the Uptown Troubadours, the Travelin' McCourys, Dalton Harper (from a Rick Lang-penned recording), the Chris Davis Band, and Alan Bibey with Sierra Hull and Ronnie McCoury.
