Playlist - 9/21/2014 - Marti on the Mic

Hi Folks.

There were two great shows going on this evening in the area.  The Gibson Brothers were playing in Canterbury and Tom Mindte and The Patuxent Partners were over at the Firebox in Hartford, so Marti agreed to do both Red Rooster Party and Bluegrass Cafe solo so Jim could have some listening fun.  Jim is very thankful for such a wonderful spouse who would do something like that after being away from the operator's microphone for many years.

Marti did a great job, and we thank her profusely.

The playlist is below the photos of The Gibson Brothers and Bear Minimum in Canterbury.

James & Cathy Ward will be filling in on Bluegrass Cafe for the next couple of weeks while Amy and Jim are at the IBMA World of Bluegrass in Raleigh NC.  Tune them in!

"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 9/14/2014

Well...we certainly had a busy Sunday at the Bluegrass Cafe!  It was a day filled with birthday tributes to two music legends; we honored a banjo picker (Eddie Adcock) who recently won a big, big prize; and we included a boatload of new music from some mighty wonderful pickers.  Hope you were able to join us for some, if not all, of the show!

Starting with the birthday tributes, we included a whole bunch of music from the pen and/or vocal performance of the Father of Bluegrass Music, Bill Monroe (born September 13, 1911), as well as several selections from the song catalog of the one and only Hank Williams, who would have celebrated his birthday on September 17th (born on that date in 1923).

Since it is the "busy season" for new Bluegrass recordings -- the International Bluegrass Music

Association's World of Bluegrass event takes place in Raleigh, NC at the end of this month -- we have received bunches of them over the last couple of weeks.  On Sunday, we shared a few songs from those new projects, really even before we had a chance to preview them!  Great stuff, all around, and we will surely look forward to hearing more of these new projects from established acts like Junior Sisk & Ramblers Choice and Joe Mullins & the Radio Ramblers, special event recordings from Mike Auldridge, Jerry Douglas, & Rob Ickes and the Flatt & Scruggs all-star tribute band known as the Earls of Leicester, and New England Bluegrass veteran, Bob Dick.  All of it sounded quite wonderful -- can't wait to hear these full projects!

Hope you have a terrific week, and be sure to join Marti for next week's Bluegrass Cafe!

Ron Thomason
Hi Folks,

With only an hour and 45 minutes left to us by a spurts preemption, we celebrated Dry Branch Fire Squad's Ron Thomason who had his 70th birthday (Sept. 5th), Buzz Busby's birthday (Sept. 6th), and featured new tracks from Rob McCoury's new banjo album.

Other newer music came from Nightflyer, The Roys, Al Jones, and Wayne Taylor (of Appaloosa).

Classic music included cuts from Bill Price's 1985 LP, Bill Emerson & Pete Goble, Larry Richardson & Red Barker, Mac Martin, The Wilson Brothers, and Don Stover.

Tune in next Sunday when Amy will make the banjos and fiddles ring.
