"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 5/16/2021

For Sunday's radio show, we remembered the music of a fine country music duo of the 1950s, celebrated the shared birthday of three members of the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame, and included new music from two fine Bluegrass gospel recordings.  Hope you were able to join us!

Brothers-in-law Johnnie Wright (May 13, 1914 - September 27, 2011) and Jack Anglin (May 13, 1916 - March 8, 1963) performed together as a duo called Johnnie & Jack.  Their music was fun, and several of their songs have been covered in the world of Bluegrass over the years.

There were selections from several Bluegrass birthday celebrants, including from three Bluegrass Hall of Famers who were all born on May 17th:  fiddler Paul Warren (with Lester Flatt & Earl Scruggs & the Foggy Mountain Boys), Red Smiley (of Reno & Smiley), and Rodney Dillard of the Dillards

And there were two new Bluegrass gospel recordings added to the mix this week with selections from both Joe Mullins & the Radio Ramblers ("Somewhere Beyond The Blue" on Billy Blue Records) and Larry Sparks ("Ministry In Song" on Rebel Records).  Other 2021 music on the show came from Jay Armsworthy & Eastern Tradition, Danny Paisley & the Southern Grass, Deanie Richardson, Jesse Brock, and the "Industrial Strength Bluegrass" collection.

Have a fine week, and we hope you'll consider tuning in once more next Sunday afternoon, 4-7PM.

Take care -
Amy O.
