"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 6/7/2026

The first Sunday of June featured a lot of fine things at our Bluegrass Cafe:  birthday tributes to Tony Rice, Jamie Dailey, Rick Lang, Corrina Rose Logston Stephens, and Clarence White, and also, a first-time-in-a-long-time telephone conversation with Eric Gibson of the Gibson Brothers.  The Gibsons will appear at the Podunk Bluegrass Festival in Goshen, CT on Friday, August 7th.  Hope you were able to join us for this episode.

Thanks for listening!

Amy O.

Live Bluegrass on the Internet!

During Sunday's Bluegrass Cafe (airing at a special time on both Sunday, March 7th and Sunday, March 14th -- 6-9PM instead of 4-7PM), we mentioned a few Bluegrass shows/events that are coming up and will be available for you to view online.  Does this replace going to an in-person event?  Nope.  Is a livesteam show a very excellent substitute as we continue to work our way through these COVID days?  Absolutely!  Here's what you should know:

  • Sunday, March 7th -- 8PM Eastern -- Joe Mullins & the Radio Ramblers
Free performance streamed at Southern Door Community Auditorium or via the band's Facebook page.

  • Saturday, March 27th - 4-9PM -- Danny Paisley & the Southern Grass (plus the Blades Of Grass, Acoustic Turnpike, Homestead, and Free Range)
Free show sponsored by Wilmington (Delaware) Bluegrass.  Join them directly online (www.wilmingtonwintergrass.org) or via Facebook.

  • Saturday, March 27th - 1PM -- "Industrial Strength Bluegrass" CD release livestream event featuring four bands:  Joe Mullins & the Radio Ramblers, Rhonda Vincent & the Rage, the Isaacs, and the Caleb Daugherty Band.  The CD being released supports a new book of the same title edited by Fred Bartenstein and Curtis Ellison, and published in January 2021 by the University of Illinois Press.  Ticket price is $14 (watchpulling.tv) or via Facebook.

In addition to these free shows, the always-popular Gibson Brothers are appearing at two ticketed events over the next few weeks.

  • Friday, March 12th -- 8PM -- Emelin Theatre
Ticket and streaming info are here.  Per the Gibsons' Facebook page, this will be a live concert from Leigh's house featuring Eric, Leigh, and Mike Barber

Looks like there will be another Gibson Brothers show (Gibson trio?) for Caffe Lena on April 11th.  More info will follow.

In all likelihood, you will continue to see a lot of these virtual shows made available until things really open up again, so be sure to check out the shows when you can.

As a bonus, here's a link to a February 21st live Spinney Brothers show broadcast on Facebook:  https://fb.watch/44OLe20t4j/

Enjoy!

"Bluegrass Cafe" Playlist - 5/3/2009 - Wayne Taylor

There was excitement in the studio Sunday because we had the good fortune to have Wayne Taylor of Wayne Taylor and Appaloosa on the air with us live by telephone. Wayne has assembled a super band following his retirement from the US Navy where he was leader of the Navy's bluegrass unit, The Country Current. We featured a few songs from Wayne's new CD as well as a couple from an earlier Wayne Taylor collaboration with Bill Emerson. When you see Wayne, you must ask him about the time he performed for Bill Monroe.

From left to right in the photo: Dave Giegerich, Kip Martin, Emory Lester, Wayne Taylor, Mark Delaney

We also played brand new music from two outstanding new CDs from The Gibson Brothers and Dale Ann Bradley.

With history in mind, we bookended Frank Wakefield's career (so far) by playing one of his oldest (from vinyl) and newest recorded instrumentals. It is amazing how consistent his tone is across 56 years.

Anne & Pete Sibley have a local concert in the area this coming Friday, so we played a fine song from one of their recent CDs.

We had short segments honoring Benny Martin (birthday this coming week), the Kentucky Derby (race horse songs), and Cinco de Mayo.

There was another cause to celebrate Sunday as James and Cathy Ward programmed their last one-hour segment of the show as trainees (their selections are in blue below). They did a great job, and we will now wait and see if they decide to pursue their own show. James' and Cathy's selections are indicated on the playlist in blue.

There is an astounding number of quality new releases lately, so I'll be eager to get some more of them on the air next week when Marti and I are back again.

"Bluegrass Cafe" Playlist - 9/14/2008 + Eric Gibson

Hi Folks!

Our sports-shortened show was brightened by the appearance (by telephone) of Eric Gibson of The Gibson Brothers. The Gibsons will be paying us a visit by way of a concert in Canterbury, CT, on 12 October 2008, so it seemed a good time to check in with Eric to talk about their new CD, "Iron and Diamonds," which is commanding much chart attention lately. We had a delightful discussion which you can experience again here.

We also paid tribute to Bill Monroe on the day after the anniversary of his birthday, played a handful of requests (in blue below) , and played some classic cuts during the gospel set.

Be sure to tune in next week when Amy will energize the airwaves with more of the best in bluegrass.
