"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 6/21/2026

Never quite finished my write-up for our Father's Day edition of Bluegrass Cafe on June 21st!  Oops!  Here were a couple of highlights:  sharing lots of music from the great Bluegrass Hall of Famer, Eddie Adcock (June 21, 1938 - March 20, 2025), who would have celebrated his 88th birthday on June 21st; listening to lots of tunes performed by the Bluegrass fathers along with their musical children, including folks with last names like Amos, Armistead, Cox, Harrell, McCoury, McGee, Mullins, Paisley, Parmley, Pike, White, and, of course, Monroe; listening to a few songs with themes of fathers and children; and, we belatedly remembered the June 19th birth anniversary of the great Lester Raymond Flatt (June 19, 1914 - May 11, 1979).

Hope you were able to join us for the show, and that if you were a celebrant for Father's Day, you sure enjoyed your day!

We'll look forward to joining you for another Bluegrass Cafe very soon!

Amy O.

"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 12/28/2025

Sunday's Bluegrass Cafe was a bit different than our usual program for a couple of reasons:  for one, with the exception of songs from the newest members of the Bluegrass Hall of Fame and music from Bluegrass musicians who died during this past year, we played only music that had been released during the year of 2025.  The second reason this show differed was that it didn't run for a full 180 minutes, but instead, we cut the show short at about 130 minutes.  Why?  Well, the threat of freezing rain in the area didn't sound too appealing, so I will confess that I decided to close up shop a bit early.  Still, we shared A LOT of fine music, so I hope you were able to join us!

If you missed the show, but still might like to listen, here's a link to the archived broadcast:  Bluegrass Cafe Sun Dec 28 with Amy Orlomoski on WHUS Radio

We'll hope to join you for three full hours this coming Sunday afternoon for our first Bluegrass Cafe broadcast of 2026.  Thanks so much for listening to our program this year, and may you enjoy much health and happiness in the new year!

"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 3/23/2025

During this edition of our Bluegrass Cafe, we put the spotlight on an important member of the Bluegrass Hall of Fame:  Edward Windsor Adcock (June 21, 1938 - March 19, 2025).  This beloved icon of the banjo (and guitar) was an innovator whose banjo stylings will be remembered forever both for the work he did with his own bands and, of course, as part of the Classic Country Gentlemen (Eddie, John Duffey, Tom Gray, Charlie Waller).  We remembered him the best way we know how to honor someone -- by sharing a good portion of his/her music.  To this end, we heard music from Eddie joined by the Masters (Eddie, Kenny Baker, Josh Graves, Jesse McReynolds), songs recorded by Eddie with his wife of nearly 50 years, Martha Hearon Adcock, with the great Don Reno, on his own, and, of course, with the Country Gentlemen.  Eddie Adcock will never be forgotten.  Read more about his remarkable life in this full-length obituary published by Bluegrass Today.

In between selections from Eddie Adcock, we also shared some newer Bluegrass selections from folks like Seth Mulder & Midnight Run, Williamson Branch, Jim Hurst, Red Camel Collective, and the Seldom Scene.  We also remembered Bluegrass Hall of Famer David Grisman on his 80th birthday (born March 23, 1945).

I learned this week that our WHUS website holds an audio archive for two weeks of our Bluegrass Cafe program, so if you did not get a chance to listen to this particular edition of our show, you still have one more week to do so.  Here's a direct link, or if you want to walk yourself through:

* Visit WHUS.org
* Click on the tab that reads, "Listen 91.7 FM+"
* Choose "WHUS FM Schedule"
* Scroll down to Sunday, 4-7PM where the block reads, "Bluegrass Cafe Amy Orlomoski"
* Click on that link and a new window will open with the show's playlist and a player on top. Click the player and enjoy the show!

I will not be live in the studio with you on March 30th, but there should be an archival broadcast of the show made during the COVID-era. We'll be back in studio with you one week from today -- April 6th -- from 4-7PM.

Until then, have a great week!

Amy O.

"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 6/26/2022

As we do on occasion, for this past Sunday's Bluegrass Cafe, we chose to spend a little bit of time spotlighting performers whose surname or band name begins with a certain letter of the alphabet.  For no particular reason, this week's spotlight letter was an "S."  To that end, we included 20+ songs from several "S" performers, including Larry Sparks, Shannon Slaughter, Valerie Smith & Liberty Pike, Special Consensus, Sister Sadie, the Larry Stephenson Band, Seldom Scene, the Spinney Brothers, and quite a few more.

We also celebrated a couple of Bluegrass birthdays, including that of the late Hall of Fame fiddler Kenny Baker (June 26, 1926 - July 8, 2011).  We also belatedly celebrated the birthday of another super-innovative banjo picker and Bluegrass Hall of Famer, Eddie Adcock (born June 21, 1938).

And we remembered James Reams, a musician who was a wonderful ambassador for Bluegrass both in the northeast and the southwest.

Hope you were able to join us on Sunday, but if not, you've got another chance coming up this Sunday from 4-7PM.  See you then.

Enjoy the week!

Amy O.

"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 6/27/2021

On this last Sunday of June, we shared songs about Mississippi and celebrated a few of its wonderful contributions to the world of music, and we paid belated birthday tributes to two wonderful members of the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame:  Eddie Adcock (born June 21, 1938) and the late Joe Val (June 26, 1926 - June 11, 1985).  In addition, there was even a little bit of newer music to share.  Yay!

Our Mississippi "tribute" included songs about Mississippi (the State and the River), as well as a few songs from the song catalogs of some important Mississippi-born performers including Jimmie Rodgers, Elvis Presley, Marty Stuart, and Carl Jackson.

Newer music came to us from the long-awaited solo outing from Jesse Brock, as well as recent releases from Stoney Creek Bluegrass, the Kody Norris Show, Tina Adair, Danny Paisley & the Southern Grass, Larry Sparks, Williamson Branch, Joe Mullins & the Radio Ramblers, and the "Industrial Strength Bluegrass" recording.

Hope you'll be sure to join us for a (partially) star-spangled Bluegrass Cafe on July 4th!

Until then, have yourself a wonderful week!

Amy O.
