"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 3/23/2025

During this edition of our Bluegrass Cafe, we put the spotlight on an important member of the Bluegrass Hall of Fame:  Edward Windsor Adcock (June 21, 1938 - March 19, 2025).  This beloved icon of the banjo (and guitar) was an innovator whose banjo stylings will be remembered forever both for the work he did with his own bands and, of course, as part of the Classic Country Gentlemen (Eddie, John Duffey, Tom Gray, Charlie Waller).  We remembered him the best way we know how to honor someone -- by sharing a good portion of his/her music.  To this end, we heard music from Eddie joined by the Masters (Eddie, Kenny Baker, Josh Graves, Jesse McReynolds), songs recorded by Eddie with his wife of nearly 50 years, Martha Hearon Adcock, with the great Don Reno, on his own, and, of course, with the Country Gentlemen.  Eddie Adcock will never be forgotten.  Read more about his remarkable life in this full-length obituary published by Bluegrass Today.

In between selections from Eddie Adcock, we also shared some newer Bluegrass selections from folks like Seth Mulder & Midnight Run, Williamson Branch, Jim Hurst, Red Camel Collective, and the Seldom Scene.  We also remembered Bluegrass Hall of Famer David Grisman on his 80th birthday (born March 23, 1945).

I learned this week that our WHUS website holds an audio archive for two weeks of our Bluegrass Cafe program, so if you did not get a chance to listen to this particular edition of our show, you still have one more week to do so.  Here's a direct link, or if you want to walk yourself through:

* Visit WHUS.org
* Click on the tab that reads, "Listen 91.7 FM+"
* Choose "WHUS FM Schedule"
* Scroll down to Sunday, 4-7PM where the block reads, "Bluegrass Cafe Amy Orlomoski"
* Click on that link and a new window will open with the show's playlist and a player on top. Click the player and enjoy the show!

I will not be live in the studio with you on March 30th, but there should be an archival broadcast of the show made during the COVID-era. We'll be back in studio with you one week from today -- April 6th -- from 4-7PM.

Until then, have a great week!

Amy O.

"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 3/21/2021

Songs of Spring -- that's how we started this Sunday's edition of our Bluegrass Cafe!  Hope you were able to tune in, as for the first time in two weeks, we could be heard during our "normal" time of 4-7PM on Sunday afternoon.  Yay!

In addition to songs about Spring, we also heard a whole bunch of newer Bluegrass during this Sunday's broadcast, with selections from Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, Joe Mullins & the Radio Ramblers, the ETSU Bluegrass Pride Band, Missy Armstrong, Steve Gulley & Tim Stafford, and a band called Magnolia Drive.

And there were a couple more birthdays to celebrate, as well, including those of

David Grisman and the late John Starling, as well as Country Music Hall of Famer, Carl Smith (who was celebrated by playing several Bluegrass versions of his 1950s hits).  We also remembered the late Peg Chase, who was a fixture on the New England Bluegrass festival scene for many years before relocating to Idaho several years ago.

Hope you were able to join us, but if not, please try to tune in next Sunday afternoon - 4-7PM.

Until then, have a great week -- and stay healthy!

Amy O.
