It's summer at the Bluegrass Cafe (and elsewhere, too).  That means that there's generally a whole lot of great, live Bluegrass to be heard at a whole lot of festivals and shows.  Fortunately, for all of us, many, many performers have had their songs recorded during a live performance, so we started Sunday's show featuring a little bit of "live" music, so as to get into a type of "festival mode."  Not sure if it worked or not, but it definitely is fun to tap into those live recordings every now and then.

Something that definitely is NOT fun is the fact that we lost not one but two wonderful Bluegrass performers late this week:  Melvin Goins (December 30, 1933-July 29, 2016) and Don Parmley (October 19, 1933-July 30, 2016).  Both of these gentlemen devoted many years of their lives to making music that would be remembered, and their work clearly was not in vain.  We shared several songs from each of them during Sunday's show, including selections from bands associated with Melvin Goins (the Lonesome Pine Fiddlers, the Goins Brothers, America's Bluegrass Band, and Melvin Goins & Windy Mountain) as well as a couple of bands related to Don Parmley (the Hillmen, and, of course, the Bluegrass Cardinals).  We'll remember both entertainers through their music on the Bluegrass Cafe.

As always, there was a smattering of newer Bluegrass music on Sunday's show, too.  Those selections came from recent projects by the Earls Of Leicester, Kristin Scott Benson, Newtown, Steve Gulley & New Pinnacle, Stuart Wyrick, Mickey Galyean & Cullen's Bridge, Jeff White, David Parmley & Cardinal Tradition, the Special Consensus, the Del McCoury Band, the Spinney Brothers, Junior Sisk & Ramblers Choice, and Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver.
