"Bluegrass Cafe" Playlist - 4/29/2012 - Travers Chandler, Buzz Busby

Hi Folks,

Travers Chandler
Though we lost a half-hour for UCONN sports, we still fit in a great visit from Travers Chandler who, along with his band Avery County, is on the verge of releasing a new CD on the Mountain Fever label titled Pardon Me...   Travers allowed us to debut some of the tracks from that new CD, and it is a winner.

Travers has mined the catalogs of Charlie Moore, Buzz Busby, Keith Whitley, Carter Stanley, Johnny Paycheck, Don Stover, and more to create a dark, emotion-packed set of traditional bluegrass that is refreshing for exactly that song selection and the performances of his mostly new band members.

We preceded Travers' visit to Bluegrass Cafe with a set of music tipping our hat to the late Buzz Busby, the dean of Washington DC bluegrass.  The crown jewel of the Busby set was the play of a very rare original Jiffy 45 rpm recording of "Lost" and "Me And The Jukebox."

Other newer music on the program included tracks from The Grascals, Marty Raybon, The Steep Canyon Rangers, Bill Evans, The Spinney Brothers, Sweet Potato Pie, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver (who performed his only two northeast concerts for the year this weekend in CT and MA), Jim Hurst, and Jimmy Gaudreau & Moondi Klein.

Be sure to join Amy next week as she makes the banjos and fiddles ring.
