"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 9/10/2006

Today's show was another abbreviated one, as WHUS broadcasts many sports at UCONN in addition to basketball. For those who like to know, yesterday, the UCONN Men's Soccer team defeated Villanova by a score of 2-1. Anyhow, we still squeezed in plenty of the Bluegrass from 5-7PM, starting off with a few tunes from a man who would have celebrated his 95th birthday on September 13th -- Bill Monroe. Of course, it's pretty likely that there wouldn't be any Bluegrass Cafe (or any Bluegrass music as we know it, period) without the existence of Mr. Monroe, so it seems only fitting to keep on playing his music. A former BG Cafe guest named Lou Reid also celebrates a birthday on September 13th, so we squeezed in a couple of tunes from two of his bands, as well. Also included was a bit of new music from the likes of IIIrd Tyme Out, Big Country Bluegrass, Country Current (the U.S. Navy's Bluegrass band), Mickey Harris, and Charlie Cushman. Next week's show -- September 17th -- will also be preempted by about an hour (likely making the show's start time about 5PM), and you'll want to join Jim for that one, for sure. He's going to be speaking to IBMA Dobro Player of the Year Phil Leadbetter. I'm sure you'll want to tune in (as will I).
