"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 1/11/2026

During this past Sunday's Bluegrass Cafe, we spent a whole lot of time (and a good number of songs) on Sunday afternoon honoring one of the finest songwriters in Bluegrass history:  Randall Hylton (January 8, 1946 - March 19, 2001).  Though this wonderful guitarist, performer, and songwriter left this world nearly 25 years ago, his music will live on forever, as his music continues to be recorded and remembered wherever fine Bluegrass is played.  

There was a tiny bit of new music to share on Sunday, too, with selections from Dale Ann Bradley, Della Mae, the Tennessee Bluegrass Band, and a fun duet selection from Bryan Sutton and Billy Strings.

"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 1/12/2025

During Sunday's Bluegrass Cafe, we spent a good bit of time celebrating the 99th birth anniversary of the Country Music Hall of Famer, Ray Price.  Though the Cherokee Cowboy was definitely NOT a Bluegrass performer, like so many of his contemporaries, a whole bunch of Ray Price songs have been recorded in a Bluegrass style.  We couldn't let the day pass without sharing a whole bunch of them, so we didn't. 

We also remembered the wonderful Bluegrass songwriter, Randall Hylton (January 8, 1945 - July 19, 2003).  Randall Hylton left us with many fine songs that have become an important part of Bluegrass history, and we shared just four of them on Sunday.

New music was part of the show, too, with new selections from Greg Blake, Joe Mullins & the Radio Ramblers, Wyatt Ellis with Peter Rowan, the Henhouse Prowlers, and a tribute to the late Audie Blaylock from some former members of his band, Redline.

"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 11/10/2024 -- revisiting 1/10/2021

Hey all - 

If you're currently listening to our Bluegrass Cafe and wondering why things sound a bit "off," it's probably because we're doing some time travelling today -- rebroadcasting a program that first aired on Sunday, January 10, 2021.  The UConn Women's Basketball team is back in action today -- Sunday, November 10, 2024 -- and their game was scheduled to begin at 4:30PM.  Instead of dealing with a really awful parking situation on campus, I opted to stay home and listen to today's previously recorded show along with you all.  😁

Sunday's Bluegrass Cafe included lots of music in celebration of birthdays, as well as a couple of newer tunes, and a whole bunch of blue ones, too.  Hope you were able to join us.        

Birthday celebrating took up the main portion of our program this week, as we remembered prolific songwriter Randall Hylton (January 8, 1945 - March 19, 2001) by sharing lots of his songs.  We also remembered Country Music Hall of Famer Ray Price (January 12, 1926 - December 16, 2013) with music both performed by him and from his vast songbook.  And if that wasn't enough, we even remembered Elvis Presley (January 8, 1935 - August 16, 1977) just a tiny bit, too.  

There was just a tiny bit of brand-new music to share this week, and it came to us from the likes of Sturgill Simpson, Billy Wise & Mountain Time, and Balsam Range.

We even played a bit of requested music this week, too.  If you have any requests, feel free to send me an email:  bgcafe@gmail.com.  I can't guarantee that I will be able to play whatever you request, as these "home-made" shows are limited by what music I have in my personal music library.  Still, there's always a possibility, and it's fun to hear from people.

"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 1/8/2023

Happy New Year!  Our first live-in-the-studio Bluegrass Cafe for 2023 featured a look back at some of the finest Bluegrass releases for 2022.  In fact, our first hour (plus a bit more) included (mostly) 2022 releases from all kind of bands and performers, including the Tennessee Bluegrass Band, Dan Tyminski, Greg Blake, Seth Mulder & Midnight Run, the Junior Sisk Band, Laura Orshaw, Joe Mullins & the Radio Ramblers, Authentic Unlimited, the Gibson Brothers, Del McCoury, and others.  Great music.

On this January 8th, we celebrated in song the birth anniversary of the late Randall Hylton (January 8, 1945 - March 19, 2001).  Randall Hylton was one of the most prolific songwriters in the history of Bluegrass music, and we shared ten of his songs during our program.  And we can't forget that the King -- Elvis Presley -- also would have celebrated his birthday on January 8th, so we shared his version of "Blue Moon Of Kentucky" during this broadcast.

"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 1/9/2022

Well, I just realized that I never finished posting this playlist from last Sunday's Bluegrass Cafe!  Better late than never, I suppose.  

For our Bluegrass Cafe on January 9th, we remembered three fine and varied performers:  Elvis Presley and Bluegrass songwriter/performer Randall Hylton (both born on January 8th) and Country Music Hall of Famer Ray Price (born January 12th).  We also shared newer music from the creative mind of New Hampshire songwriter Rick Lang.

"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 1/10/2021

Sunday's Bluegrass Cafe included lots of music in celebration of birthdays, as well as a couple of newer tunes, and a whole bunch of blue ones, too.  Hope you were able to join us.        

Birthday celebrating took up the main portion of our program this week, as we remembered prolific songwriter Randall Hylton (January 8, 1945 - March 19, 2001) by sharing lots of his songs.  We also remembered Country Music Hall of Famer Ray Price (January 12, 1926 - December 16, 2013) with music both performed by him and from his vast songbook.  And if that wasn't enough, we even remembered Elvis Presley (January 8, 1935 - August 16, 1977) just a tiny bit, too.  

There was just a tiny bit of brand-new music to share this week, and it came to us from the likes of Sturgill Simpson, Billy Wise & Mountain Time, and Balsam Range.

We even played a bit of requested music this week, too.  If you have any requests, feel free to send me an email:  bgcafe@gmail.com.  I can't guarantee that I will be able to play whatever you request, as these "home-made" shows are limited by what music I have in my personal music library.  Still, there's always a possibility, and it's fun to hear from people.
