I'm late again in formally sharing our playlist from the March 2nd edition of Bluegrass Cafe, but you can find it below.

The highlights for this show:  music from several LPs; belated birthday celebrating of lots of wonderful performers, including Ralph Stanley (February 25, 1927 - June 23, 2016), Johnny Cash (February 26, 1932 - September 12, 2013), Doc Watson (March 3, 1923 - May 29, 2012), and John Duffey (March 4, 1932 - December 10, 1996); new music; and a mid-show chat with the Michelle Canning who is putting together her 14th annual fundraising benefit with all of the proceeds benefitting the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.  For more information on "A Night On The Edge" (to be held on March 22nd), click here.

"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 2/25/2024

Our Bluegrass Cafe on Sunday was a day to celebrate two important banjo innovators who both happened to be born on February 25th -- Bluegrass Hall of Famer Ralph Stanley (February 25, 1927 - June 13, 2016) and Peter Wernick (born February 25, 1946).  To that end, we shared loads of music from both of these performers throughout the course of our three hour visit.  And, since it only happens once every four years, we couldn't forget to celebrate the birthday of mandolin master, Mike Compton (born February 29, 1956).

Veronica "Roni" Stoneman
(May 5, 1938 - February 22, 2024) may have been primarily known as one of the amusing cast members of "Hee Haw" for 18 years, but she was much more than that.  In her big, musical family -- The Stonemans -- Roni was the star banjo picker.  In fact, in 1957, she was the first female banjo player to record a song playing Scruggs-style banjo, which earned her the nickname of "First Lady of the Banjo."  Along with her family, Roni was inducted into the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame in 2021.  For more information on Roni Stoneman, consider reading her 2007 memoir (as told to Ellen Wright) published by the University of Illinois Press:  Pressing On:  The Roni Stoneman Story.

New music was part of the mix on Sunday, as well, with brand new selections from Becky Buller (with Aoife O'Donovan), Liam Purcell & Cane Mill Road, Shelton & Williams, and Donna Ulisse.

Hope you enjoyed what you heard, and that you'll consider joining us once again this coming Sunday from 4-7PM for our next edition of Bluegrass Cafe.

Enjoy the week!

"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 2/20/2022

Sunday's Bluegrass Cafe featured birthday tributes to two members of the Country Music Hall of Fame, two members of the Bluegrass Hall of Fame, and one Dr. Banjo.  We also included newer music, and some songs recorded 50 years ago today that were the first recordings of one of the most celebrated bands in the history of Bluegrass Music.

We had birthday tributes galore this show, with Bluegrass covers of songs originally performed by two Country Music Hall of Famers who were born one day apart:  Faron Young (February 25, 1932 - December 10, 1996) and Johnny Cash (February 26, 1932 - September 12, 2003).  This week also happens to be the birthday week of two legendary musicians in the Bluegrass Hall of Fame:  Don Reno (February 21, 1927 - October 16, 1984) and Ralph Stanley (February 25, 1927 - June 23, 2016).  In addition, Pete Wernick celebrates a birthday this week (born February 25, 1946).

In addition, we shared two songs that were the very first recordings made by the Seldom Scene.  Both songs were featured on their 1972 Rebel album, "Act I" and were recorded on February 20, 1972.

If all of that wasn't enough, there was some new (or newish) music by Terry Baucom's Dukes Of Drive, Mike Compton, Shannon Slaughter, Linda Lay, Dale Ann Bradley & Danny Paisley, and Rick Lang.

Hope you were able to join us for all or part of today's Bluegrass Cafe, but if not, you've got another chance coming up next Sunday afternoon, 4-7PM.  See you then.  😁

Enjoy the week!
