Sunday's Bluegrass Cafe started with songs about working -- the exact thing that most folks don't do on Labor Day.
We belatedly celebrated the birth anniversary of the original Queen of Country Music, Kitty Wells (August 30, 1919 - July 16, 2012). Like that of a lot of country music stars of her generation, the music of this icon has often been covered in the world of Bluegrass music. To that end, we shared songs not only from Kitty Wells, but also from Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, the Hot Flashes, IIIrd Tyme Out, Dale Ann Bradley with Danny Paisley, White Mountain Bluegrass, and Don Reno & Charlie Moore.
And there was a bit of new music to share, too. To that end, we included newer music from the Dan Tyminski album, "Live From The Ryman," as well as selections from Sister Sadie (from the "Bluegrass Sings Paxton" collection), the Grass Daddies, Wyatt Ellis, Unspoken Tradition, Rhonda Vincent, and Chris Jones & the Night Drivers.
As I mentioned during our broadcast this past Sunday, I will not be at WHUS to present a live program this coming weekend (Sunday, September 8th). If all goes as planned, there will be a rebroadcast of a COVID-era Bluegrass Cafe on Sunday. There may be some confusion as to why I'm referencing COVID, but now, you'll know the secret! I plan to return to the air on Sunday, September 15th with a live Bluegrass Cafe. Please be sure to join me.
Have a great week!
Amy O.
