"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 10/17/2021

Sunday's Bluegrass Cafe included music celebrating a couple of mid-October birthdays, a bit of newer music, and tributes to two important members of the Bluegrass community.

The week just past was a rough one for friends and fans of the great
Phil Leadbetter, who died at the age of 59 on October 14th.  "Uncle Phil" was a big personality who was a multi-time cancer survivor, as well as a bandleader and, by all accounts, a fine person.  He will be missed.  A day before the passing of Phil Leadbetter, Kerry Hay -- the founder of Hay Holler Records -- died at the age of 89.  In the 1990s, Mr. Hay's record label roster included lots of fine performers, including Big Country Bluegrass, the Gillis Brothers, the all-star-packed Bluegrass Band, and the Gibson Brothers.

We shone a small spotlight on the co-recipient of the 2021 Steve Martin Banjo Prize, Alan Munde.  Congratulations to him!

New music featured on Sunday included selections from Danny Paisley & the Southern GrassAmanda Cook, Tammy Rogers & Thomm Jutz, Colebrook Road, Sideline, Junior Sisk, Daryl Mosley, Balsam Range, Lorraine Jordan & Carolina Road, Jeremy Stephens, Joe Mullins & the Radio Ramblers, and Merle Monroe, and a selection from the "Industrial Strength Bluegrass" collection.

Hope you're able to join us once again next Sunday afternoon, 4-7PM.  We'll be looking for you!

Enjoy the week!
