What a great Bluegrass weekend! Hope you were able to check out the Podunk Bluegrass Festival over the last few days. Whether or not you were able to get there and enjoy the wide array of Bluegrass performers, we started Sunday's 68th home-made Bluegrass Cafe with selections from a few of the wonderful acts you could find on Podunk's Main Stage on Friday and Saturday, including the Po' Ramblin' Boys, Bill & the Belles, Rock Hearts, and Michael Cleveland. Michael Cleveland tore it up
on Friday night at Podunk.
There's no doubt that the late Country Music Hall of Famer Buck Owens and his Bakersfield Sound have greatly influenced many Bluegrass performers over the years. To belatedly celebrate what would have been Buck's 92nd birthday (born August 12, 1929), we played several Bluegrass covers of Buck tunes. We also included a number from the late Don Rich -- Buck's right-hand man and the leader of the Buckaroos -- who was born on August 15, 1941, and died tragically in a motorcycle accident on July 7, 1974.
We had a bit of newer music to share, too, including the new gospel record from the Lonesome River Band, as well as 2021 releases from Deanie Richardson, Tina Adair, Danny Paisley & the Southern Grass, Wildfire, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, two cuts from the "Industrial Strength Bluegrass" collection, the Plate Scrapers, Wildfire, the Larry Stephenson Band, Chris Jones & the Night Drivers, Larry Sparks, and a Connecticut band known as Still Pickin'.
Hope you enjoyed the show, and please join me once again next Sunday afternoon, 4-7PM.
Enjoy the week!
