Happy Easter! Hope you are enjoying a safe, socially-distanced holiday with family and friends!
Our Bluegrass Cafe for this day included (of course) a full hour's worth of Easter-themed Bluegrass music. There have been a good number of songs recorded with an Easter theme, so hope we were able to play one of your favorites.
We remembered a wonderful Bluegrass performer in song -- Hazel McGee of White Mountain Bluegrass -- as she was born on April 2, 1941. Sadly, Hazel died on October 27, 2014 after a long battle with cancer, but anyone who ever heard White Mountain Bluegrass perform live knows that this band was incredibly important in the history of Bluegrass, especially here in New England. We shared several songs featuring her strong lead vocals.
There was a bit of newer Bluegrass to share, too, including several selections from
the brand-new "Industrial Strength Bluegrass" CD on Smithsonian Folkways, as well as single tunes from Jesse Brock, Doyle Lawson & Alan Bibey, Rick Lang with James Kee, and Rick Faris. We also heard recent music from Barry Abernathy and Dale Ann Bradley.
Thanks for joining us for this week's show! We'll look forward to seeing you again next Sunday, 4-7PM. In the meantime, if you'd like to check-in with a question, comment, or question, please do: send email to bgcafe@gmail.com, or check out our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/WHUS.BluegrassCafe.
Have a good week!
