"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 10/20/2019

During Sunday's Bluegrass Café, we played a variety of Bluegrass, new and not-so-new, and included special tributes to the late Raymond Fairchild (March 15, 1939 - October 13, 2019), as well as a birthday tribute to Country Music Hall of Famer Grandpa Jones, who was born on October 20, 1913.

Lewis Marshall Jones was in his 20s when the "Grandpa" nickname was assigned to him, but he grew into that character over the years.  Grandpa may not have been a "Bluegrass" performer, but he was an entertainer who was featured on the Grand Ole Opry for many years, and he was a cast member of "Hee Haw" for a number of years, too.  During our Sunday tribute, we included a few songs performed by Grandpa Jones, as well as a couple of songs written by Grandpa Jones.  In addition, we included two songs from the Brown's Ferry Four -- a gospel quartet featuring Grandpa Jones, the Delmore Brothers, and (sometimes) Merle Travis.  Many songs found in the gospel catalog of Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver were taken there directly from the Brown's Ferry Four.

There was a tiny bit of brand-new music to share this week, as well, with selections from an upcoming recording by Sideline, and the debut recording of a new band known as Jeff Parker & Company.  Other 2019 releases included in Sunday's show were by Jason Barie, the Farm Hands, the Band Of Ruhks, the Mosley Brothers, the Grascals, the Po' Ramblin' Boys, and the Seldom Scene.

Hope you were able to join us, but if not, you'll have another opportunity to listen in next Sunday, 4-7PM.

Have a good week!

Amy O.
