"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 7/28/2019

We are a touch late in posting the list for Sunday's Bluegrass Cafe, but better late than never...

Inspired by the reading of a "graphic novel" biography of the Carter Family, a full 75% of the songs presented during the program were Bluegrass versions of songs originally recorded by the Carter Family.  On August 1, 1927, A.P. Carter with his wife, Sara, and her cousin, Maybelle (who also happened to be A.P.'s sister-in-law) made their first recordings as a group in Bristol, Tennessee/Virginia, and the music world has never been the same.  A.P. was an occasional songwriter, but he is mainly known as being a "song catcher," and there's no doubt that many of the songs he "caught" have become Bluegrass standards.  The Carter Family has been honored with memberships in both the Country Music Hall of Fame, as well as the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame, and there is no doubt that their music will be heard and performed for as long as traditional music is played.

We also briefly mentioned the three newest members of the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame, who will be inducted in September 2019:  Mike Auldridge, Bill Emerson, and the Kentucky Colonels.

Hope you were able to tune in to the show on Sunday, but if not, we'll be back with you again once more next Sunday afternoon, 4-7PM.

Have a great week!

Amy O.
