"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 7/3/2016

Oh ring, oh ring you freedom bell...
Here in the U.S.A., it's a big Independence Day weekend!  Our playlist on Sunday afternoon reflected a bit of that, with Bluegrass versions of Sousa's "Stars And Stripes Forever," "America The Beautiful," and even the National Anthem.  For good measure, we even threw in a non-Bluegrass version of a George M. Cohan song.  Best wishes to all for a Happy (and safe) 4th of July!

David Parmley at the Jenny Brook Bluegrass Festival, June 2016.
In addition to the patriotic tunes, we shared music from a couple of brand-new projects.  First up, there was the very first recorded project from a relatively new band:  David Parmley & Cardinal Tradition.  This band is just as the name implies:  David Parmley paying homage to his musical heritage with lots of songs from the Bluegrass Cardinals repertoire, mixed with some excellent country covers and a few new songs.  Great stuff.  There is also a new record from the one-and-only Lou Reid and his band, Lou Reid & Carolina.  We'll be enjoying more from each of these records in future weeks on our radio show.

Happy 70th Birthday, Jimmy Gaudreau!
The United States of America may be turning 240 this week, but there were some Bluegrass (and Bluegrass-related) birthdays to celebrate, too.  To that end, we played birthday songs in memory of the "Uncle Of Bluegrass," Charlie Monroe (born July 4, 1903), as well as the great Charlie Louvin (born July 7, 1927).  We also played several songs from Rhode Island's own Jimmy Gaudreau -- born July 3, 1946 -- as he celebrates his 70th birthday.

Hope you have a wonderful week, and be sure to join Jim for another full 3-hour Bluegrass Cafe next Sunday!
