"Bluegrass Cafe" Playlist - 10/21/2012

Hi Folks.

Back from a five-week absence, I had quite a load of new music to share with Bluegrass Cafe listeners.

But first we saluted the late Grandpa Jones who would have had a birthday October 20, and later Merle Watson who died 27 years ago this month, Clay Jones who has a birthday this week, and the late Snuffy Jenkins who would have had a birthday this week.

New music carried the day, however, beginning with American Drive -- the continuation of J.D. Crowe's band as J.D. retires this year.  Ricky Skaggs performed his new song about the invulnerability of ham, and then we brought you songs from bands discovered at the IBMA World of Bluegrass last month, including Finnders and Youngberg, Circa Blue, Hard Road Trio, Dennis Cash, and Detour.  Also presented was new music from Siamese Cousins, The Lonesome River Band, David Peterson, The Roys, Joe Mullins and the Radio Ramblers, Darrell Webb, Nu-Blu, Kevin Carter and Full Assurance, Mickey Boles, Del & Dawg, The Grass Cats, and the spectacular new traditional offering from Danny Paisley.

Other newer music came from Nightflyer, Bob Amos, Karl Shiflett, Jeff Parker, Audie Blaylock, Larry Gillis, and Balsam Range.

Whew!

The Heritage Corner explored the original version of Earl's Breakdown, and we played Mark Johnson's original recording of Forked Deer with Tony Rice from his first "Clawgrass" album to salute his recent awarding of the Steve Martin Excellence in Banjo Prize.
