Hope you got a chance to listen in on Sunday, as we had a very fine time on the ol' airwaves. About 5PM, we had a conversation with mandolin picker Darren Nicholson of the relatively-new group, Balsam Range. This traditional-sounding band from western North Carolina has a CD out now called "Marching Home," and both the CD and the song, "The Train's Ready" are climbing steadily up the National Bluegrass Survey charts in Bluegrass Unlimited.
In addition, we got to listen to a bit of top-notch new music from the likes of Luke McKnight & Thunder Road (a self-released project called "Leader Of The Band"), Longview ("Deep In The Mountains" from Rounder), Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver ("Help Is On The Way" from Horizon), and the Gibson Brothers ("Iron & Diamonds" on Sugar Hill). All of this is great stuff, and you're sure to hear plenty more in the future weeks at BG Cafe.
A program note: our annual Radiothon campaign at WHUS is scheduled for April 5-13. This means we'll have 2 Sundays of fundraising. I say this not as a warning to you, 'cause who really likes to be asked to give money to support a radio program?
