"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 6/23/2024

During last Sunday's presentation of our Bluegrass Cafe, we belatedly celebrated the 110th birth anniversary of one Lester Raymond Flatt (June 18, 1914 - May 11, 1979).  The Bluegrass World just wouldn't be the same without the vocal stylings and songwriting contributions of this native of Sparta, Tennessee.  We enjoyed more than twenty songs either written or performed by Lester Flatt on Sunday afternoon.  Hope you enjoyed the music of this member of both the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Bluegrass Hall of Fame.

We couldn't forget the June birthdays of two more legendary members of the Bluegrass community, both of whom happen to be natives of New England.  To that end, we heard several songs from the Massachusetts-born Bluegrass Hall of Famer Joe Val (June 26, 1926 - June 11, 1985), and from a future Hall of Famer from the State of Vermont, Dan Tyminski (born June 20, 1967).

Hope you enjoyed the program, and that you'll consider joining us once again on the last Sunday of June from 4-7PM for another edition of our Bluegrass Cafe.

See you soon!

Amy O.

"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 6/16/2024

As you might have guessed, Sunday's Bluegrass Cafe was all about dear old Dad.  Hope all of you fathers enjoyed a day filled with all of the things that make you happy.

The primary focus was sharing songs performed by lots of Bluegrass fathers and their offspring.  To that end, we included songs from folks named Amos, Armistead, Chapman, Cherryholmes, Cox, Dailey, Eldridge, Emerson, Feinberg, Harrell, Holt, McCoury, McGee, Monroe, Mullins, Paisley, Parmley, Pike, Stanley, Waller, Watson, White, Williams, and Williamson.  We also included a selection from Billy Strings's recording, "Me/And/Dad" - a collection on which he is joined by his stepfather, Terry Barber.  All of these bands just prove that Bluegrass music is definitely a family tradition.

There were also a few songs about fathers (and stepfathers).  And, of course, I had to play a few requests from my own father, Alton Orlomoski.

Bluegrass Hall of Famer Eddie Adcock celebrates birthday #86 this week (born June 21, 1938), so we couldn't NOT share several songs from him.  We included two tunes from Eddie's solo recording that was finally made public a few years ago, as well as from two of his best-known bands, the Country Gentlemen and the Eddie Adcock Band.  Happy Birthday to this legendary banjo picker!

Hope you'll consider joining us once again next Sunday afternoon from 4-7PM for another edition of our Bluegrass Cafe.

Enjoy the week!

Amy O.

"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 6/9/2024

Birthdays, birthdays, birthdays!  We had a whole bunch of them to celebrate during Sunday's Bluegrass Cafe.  In addition to belatedly celebrating the birthdays of award-winning New Hampshire songwriter, Rick Lang (born June 7, 1947) Bluegrass Hall of Famer, Tony Rice (June 8, 1951 - December 25, 2020), we celebrated three Bluegrass folks born on June 9th:  Gloria Belle, Greg Blake, and Jamie Dailey.  There's no better way to celebrate folks than by sharing their music, so that's exactly what we did!  Hope you enjoyed the songs we chose to play.

There was also a healthy portion of brand-new Bluegrass music to share, as well, including tunes from Blue Highway, the Po' Ramblin' Boys, Retro 78, Daniel Grindstaff, and Lorraine Jordan & Carolina Road.  In addition, there were recent releases from Bronwyn Keith-Hynes, Jerry Salley, Authentic Unlimited, Tony Trischka, and two selections from the Rick Lang-penned gospel recording.

Hope you were able to join us this past Sunday, but if not, we'll be sure to look for you this Sunday afternoon during our Bluegrass Cafe.

Enjoy the week!

"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 6/2/2024

Our first Bluegrass Cafe for the month of June inspired us to pull out our occasional feature Spotlight Letter of the Week.  In this case, we chose a few "J" tunes from performers like Clay Jones, Carl Jackson, Chris Jones, Lorraine Jordan, Jim & Jesse, and, of course, the Johnson Mountain Boys.

Newer music was on the bill for Sunday's show, as well, and we had some good stuff to share!  We included selections from forthcoming or recently-released recordings by Stephen & Jana Mougin, the Vestal Brothers, Kristy Cox, Bronwyn Keith-Hynes, Laurie Lewis, the Larry Stephenson Band, Tina Adair, and Junior Sisk.

We look forward to our next Bluegrass Cafe visit with you this coming Sunday afternoon from 4-7PM.  Consider joining us, if you're so inclined.

Have a good week!
