"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 6/18/2023

Happy Father's Day!  During today's Bluegrass Cafe, we celebrated this special day with lots of Bluegrass songs about dear old Dad (naturally), and we also included a whole bunch of music performed by Bluegrass fathers with their sons and daughters.  In the latter category, we heard music from families named Amos, Armistead, Dailey, Emerson, Feinberg, Harrell, Holt, McCoury, McGee, Monroe, Osborne, Paisley, Parmley, Pike, Scruggs, Sparks, Watson, White, Williams, and Williamson.

And there were newer songs, too, from Unlimited Tradition, Balsam Range, Darren Nicholson, Rick Faris, Special Consensus, and Danny Roberts.

"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 6/11/2023

This day's Bluegrass Cafe included lots of fine music, end of story.  :)  To be slightly more specific, we included new music, classic tunes, our "Letter of the Week" spotlight, and a few tunes recorded by Jim & Jesse 71 years ago this week.

Jim & Jesse made their first recordings for Nashville's Capitol Records on June 13, 1952.  Amazingly, they recorded a total of EIGHT "sides" (songs) that day -- just about unheard of these days.  And these songs turned out to be classics featuring wonderful harmonies from these brothers.  We listened to three of the eight songs on Sunday.

Our feature "Spotlight Letter of the Week" was the letter E, so we heard songs from "E" performers with a band name or last name beginning with that letter.  The "E" performers included Bill Emerson (with several different partners), East Nash Grass, Jim Eanes, Dave Evans, the Earls Of Leicester, and a few others.

New music was part of the show, too, with selections from Rick Faris, Nothin' Fancy, and Carson Peters & Iron Mountain.

"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 6/3/2023

Our Bluegrass Cafe returned to the air today after a one-week absence.  Hope you were able to enjoy the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

We didn't have a particular theme or focus for Sunday's show, though we did remember a number of folks with early June birthdays, including those of three Bluegrass Hall of Fame members (Hazel Dickens, Clarence White, Tony Rice).  

There was time to pull out a "Letter of the Week" spotlight this show, so in honor of the month of June, we chose the letter "J."  As my all-time favorite Johnson Mountain Boys fit quite easily into this category, I really like the letter "J."  :)  Other important "J" performers (band name or last name) that we played were Merl Johnson, Randy Jones, Sally Jones, Chris Jones & the Night Drivers, Carl Jackson, Mark Johnson & Clawgrass, Lorraine Jordan & Carolina Road, Thomm Jutz, and Jim & Jesse.

There was a tiny bit of brand-new-to-us music to share, as well, with selections from Dale Ann Bradley, Lorraine Jordan & Carolina Road, Daryl Mosley, and a tribute recording to Murphy Hicks Henry.  Recent music was included, too, from Rock Hearts, Lost & Found, Still Pickin', Greg Blake & Hometown, Darin & Brooke Aldridge, and Joe Mullins & the Radio Ramblers.
