"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 4/26/2020

This Sunday's Bluegrass Cafe was our second of the pre-recorded variety, and included birthday tributes to a couple members of the Country Music Hall of Fame, most notably the late Ira Louvin (born April 21, 1924).  We also shared new music, and some of your favorite classics, so hope you were able to join us.

There are many members of the Country Music Hall of Fame who were born in the month of April.  This week, we shared a few Bluegrass-style renditions of tunes by Glen Campbell (born April 22, 1937) and Willie Nelson (born April 29, 1933).  We put the birthday focus on Ira Louvin -- the tenor singing, mandolin playing Louvin brother -- as Ira would have celebrated his 96th birthday on April 21st.  Is there a pair of singers (especially siblings) who wouldn't like to be able to sing in the super-close harmony style of the Louvin Brothers?  Both Louvins were incredibly gifted songwriters, as well, and many of their songs have been recorded in a Bluegrass style over the years.  During Sunday's show, we shared twenty-three Louvin-penned songs, even though we could have filled the whole three hours with Louvin music.  Of course, there's plenty left for another several shows.

Coming later in 2020...new music from High Fidelity!
New music was featured on Sunday, as well.  To that end, we debuted (on WHUS, anyway) new songs from recently or soon-to-be released records by High Fidelity, the Crowe Brothers, Professor Dan Boner, J.B. & Jamie Dailey, Stephen Mougin, and Appalachian Road Show.  There was also 2020 music from Shannon Slaughter, Terry Baucom's Dukes Of Drive, and the Feinberg Brothers.

Hope you are all doing well during our COVID-19 isolation days.  Remember -- as we are pre-recording the shows these days, we can't answer your requests during the showtime.  However, if you would like to say hello or send a request, please feel free to send email to bgcafe@gmail.com or check out our Facebook page:  www.facebook.com/WHUS.Bluegrass Cafe.

Stay healthy!

"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 4/19/2020

We're baaa-aaack!

The last time we were in the studio at WHUS to present our Bluegrass Cafe was March 8th.  When we signed off that day, we had no idea how this COVID-19 virus would impact us and our broadcasting future, but it surely has.  Weeks have passed with WHUS going into an automated mode, but we are happy to know that we now have the ability and opportunity to present a pre-recorded Bluegrass Cafe for you every week until it is deemed safe for us to be back broadcasting live at WHUS.  This pre-recording thing is all new to me -- even though the technologies have been in place for years.  Sunday's broadcast is one I recorded earlier this week -- hope you enjoyed it!

As you might expect, we had a good bit of newer Bluegrass music to share with you, featuring several tracks from the brand new, all-brother duet record from the Feinberg Brothers called, "Songs We Sing."  We also included selections from soon-to-be or recently released records from Becky Buller, Lorraine Jordan & Carolina Road, Justin Moses, Fast Track, and Laurie Lewis.

Sadly, the Bluegrass World has not been untouched by the COVID-19 virus, so this week, we duly paid our respects to the country singer, Joe Diffie (December 28, 1958 - March 29, 2020) and the American songwriter, John Prine (October 10, 1946 - April 7, 2020).  Joe Diffie was part of a Bluegrass band as a young singer in his native Oklahoma, and would later go to make an all-Bluegrass recording in 2010.  John Prine was not a Bluegrass performer, but there is no doubt that many of his songs have been recorded in a Bluegrass style, most notably the autobiographical "Paradise" (recorded by Jim & Jesse and others).  We remembered these two gentlemen in the best way we know how -- by sharing
their music.

I'm not sure for how long we will be broadcasting our Bluegrass Cafe in this pre-recorded way, but we hope you will consider tuning in again next Sunday, 4-7PM.  In the meantime, if you would like to send in a request, please feel free to do so via our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/WHUS.BluegrassCafe) or email (bgcafe@gmail.com).

Until next time, take good care, and have a good week!
