"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 11/24/2019

During Sunday's Bluegrass Cafe, the emphasis was on saying THANKS at the start of our Thanksgiving Week.  We shared songs about giving thanks, and in the gospel set, there were lots of songs about pilgrims.  Hope you were able to join us!

This week, we also played music from three of the five CDs recently nominated for the 2020 Best Bluegrass Album Grammy award, as well as several songs performed by Bluegrass 45:  a band that featured Sab Watanabe on banjo.  Sab, the winner of a 2019 International Bluegrass Music Association Distinguished Achievement Award for his long-running Japanese language publication, Muleskinner, was the Bluegrass 45's banjo picker, and is featured prominently on their debut album from 1971.  We learned this week that Sab died on November 21st at the age of 69.  

There wasn't a whole lot of brand-new Bluegrass to share, but we did include music from a few CDs that were released in 2019, including selections by the Band Of Ruhks, Blue Moon Rising, Rick Faris, Jason Barie, Larry Sparks, Michael Cleveland, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, and the Steep Canyon Rangers.

Happy Birthday, Tom Adams!

As there was a UConn Basketball broadcast on our WHUS airwaves on this November Sunday, the start of today's Bluegrass Café didn't happen until around 5:15PM.  Still, in our remaining 1 3/4 hours, we tried to include a good mix of newer songs with classic tunes, plus a quick birthday tribute to banjo boy, Tom Adams.  Hope you were able to join us!  If not, we will definitely look for you next Sunday afternoon, 4-7PM.
