"Bluegrass Cafe" Playlist - 3/13/2011

Hi Folks.

Thanks to an opening just prior to this week's Bluegrass Cafe, we were able to bring you four full hours of great bluegrass music.

Following the opening theme we started the show with an old 78 recording of Molly O'Day performing "Matthew Twenty Four" which seemed fitting following the news from Japan.

Grandpa Jones then gave us his annual opinion of "Daylight Savings Time" which makes more sense to me the older I get.

We heard new music from Larry Cordle, James Reams, Steve Martin & The Steep Canyon Rangers, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Cedar Hill, The Gibson Brothers, The Radio Gang, Larry Sparks, Joe Mullins & The Radio Ramblers, Charlie Sizemore, and Jay Armsworthy.

Besides the Molly O'Day record, I dug up some great classic music from the Heritage Corner archives including songs from The Stanley Brothers from the 1961 Chicago Folk Festival, Red Allen, The McCormick Brothers (photo left), The Lonesome Pine Fiddlers, Reno & Smiley, a powerful duet home recording from the late Clarence Green & Donald Scott, and a rare Bill Monroe instrumental.

This was the last regular show before two weekends of WHUS Radiothon, so it was even sweeter having four hours to bring great bluegrass to the Southern New England airwaves.

Speaking of Radiothon, it runs 19-27 March, so you will have two Sundays of Bluegrass Cafe with both Amy and me as we remind you of the great bluegrass music we bring you every week, and give you an opportunity to show your financial support to WHUS for allowing us to do so. We will have quite a few great thank you gifts available including CDs for those who support the show.

Amy and I hope to hear from during the next two Sundays, and we will be playing music from some of our thank-you CDs.
