"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 4/28/2019

Back in the saddle again!  After a week's absence, on Sunday, I returned to our Bluegrass Cafe with a mixed bag of classic, brand new, and everything in between.  Many thanks to Cathy Day and son Keegan Day for filling in on Easter Sunday.  If you missed their rendition of our Bluegrass Cafe, click here to view the Days' playlist.  Hope you had a fine holiday!

Recognize this mandolin player from 1965?
Our mixed bag today included songs from a couple of New England's contribution to the Bluegrass World:  Vermont's Dan Tyminski and Jimmy Gaudreau of Rhode Island.  These two have made the Bluegrass World a better place, and we will continue to share their musical contributions whenever we can.

There were two notable new recordings to share this week:  "30" from the Larry Stephenson Band (celebrating Larry's 30 years as a bandleader), and the second recording from an up-and-coming Boston-based band, Mile Twelve ("City On A Hill").

If you didn't get a chance to listen today, hope you will consider joining us for next Sunday's show.

Until then, have a good week!

Amy O.

"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 4/14/2019

While Sunday was a semi-lovely, pleasantly warm April day, we still had no real plan for our Bluegrass Cafe.  Instead, our musical selections were sort of a random "free-for-all," but still, it seemed like everything went just fine.  Hope you were able to listen.

We did have a Country Music Hall of Famer's birthday to celebrate on this April 14th -- the Coal Miner's Daughter, Loretta Lynn (born April 14, 1932).  While Loretta's music hasn't been overly covered in the World of Bluegrass, we did find a song or four to share.  We also remembered the birthday of fiddle great Stuart Duncan (born April 14, 1964), included recent music from 2019 and late 2018, and included a whole lot of Bluegrass favorites.

Be sure to join Cathy Day on Easter Sunday on our WHUS airwaves, 4-7PM.

Have a great week!

Amy O.

"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 4/7/2019

It was a full three-hour show for our Bluegrass Cafe on this first Sunday of April.  We included classic Bluegrass, brand-new Bluegrass, and everything in between -- just like we aim to do on nearly every show.

In addition, as we still had a bunch of Bluegrass versions of Merle Haggard (born April 6, 1937) tunes to share, we put together seven of 'em for Sunday's program.  We also briefly celebrated the upcoming birthday of a multi-award winning, outstanding guitar picker, singer, and Country Music Hall of Famer, Vince Gill (born April 12, 1957).  Gill is no stranger to Bluegrass audiences, so we found a tune or two to share in honor of his birthday.

There was a touch of new-for-2019 music, as well, including selections from Amanda Cook, David Grier, Aubrey Eisenman & the Clydes, Colebrook Road, and Joe Mullins & the Radio Ramblers.

Hope you enjoyed the show, and that you'll consider joining us once again next Sunday afternoon, 4-7PM.

Enjoy the week!

Amy O.

"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 3/31/2019

It was another Sports Sunday at WHUS, but our Bluegrass Cafe wasn't impacted by any of the sports broadcasts.  In fact, we even were allowed a few "extra" minutes to share a couple of songs from a very fine CD that was released in 2018 on Mountain Home, "Come See About Me:  A Benefit For The IBMA Trust Fund."

While today is March 31st, we opened our show with a spotlight on the "stars of tomorrow," no fooling.  Hope you don't turn into an April Fool.  :)

This Sunday was a day for some new music, too, as we included selections from a brand new recording:  "For The Record" by Joe Mullins & the Radio Ramblers.  There were two songs from recording projects that haven't even been completed (performed by both Rick Faris and Volume Five), as well as other 2019/late 2018 music from Chris Jones & the Night Drivers, Deanie Richardson, Carolina Blue, and Big Country Bluegrass.

And, as we often like to do, we remembered a Country Music Hall of Famer who would have celebrated a birthday this week:  Merle Haggard.

Hope you have a wonderful week, and that you'll consider joining us once again next Sunday afternoon!

Amy O.
