"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 7/29/2018

On July 25, 2018, the world of Bluegrass lost one of the finest and most prolific songwriters in recent years.  John (Pete) Goble published over 180 songs with BMI over the course of his 86 years, and many of these songs have become modern-day Bluegrass standards (i.e. "Big Spike Hammer," "Tennessee 1949," "Windy City," "Colleen Malone").  During Sunday's show, we showcased 36 songs written or co-written by Pete Goble -- songs that were sung by lots of top-notch Bluegrass performers, including a few recorded by Goble and his sometime musical-partner, banjo legend Bill Emerson.

There was also a thirty-minute set featuring songs from recently- or soon-to-be released recordings by several performers, including the Crowe Brothers, Larry Cordle, High Fidelity, the Clay Hess Band, David Davis & the Warrior River Boys, Chris Jones & the Night Drivers, the Feinberg Brothers, and a cut from the John Duffey tribute record.

Hope you enjoyed the show, and that you'll consider joining us once again next Sunday afternoon, 4-7PM.

Have a good week!

Amy O.

"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 7/15/2018

On Sunday's edition of our Bluegrass Cafe, we shared lots of fine songs -- old and new.  Hope you were able to join us!

A new, traditional-sounding band; this High Fidelity CD
will be released later this month.
Among the new, there were several songs from soon-to-be-released recordings by High Fidelity, the Borrowed Tyme Band, Edgar Loudermilk, the King James Boys, Lorraine Jordan & Carolina Road, and Terry Baucom's Dukes Of Drive.  There were also songs from 2018 recordings by the Feinberg Brothers, Junior Sisk, and the John Duffey tribute recording

Cousin Jake will be the last of the
Foggy Mountain Boys to be
inducted into the Hall.
New England's Bluegrass Legend, Joe Val
We learned this week that the Bluegrass Hall of Fame & Museum will be inducting five additional members this year, in honor of the Owensboro, Kentucky museum's reopening.  To that end, there are five new members of the Hall of Fame who will inducted in October:  Vassar Clements, Mike Seeger, Allen SheltonCousin Jake Tullock, and Joe Val.  All are very deserving...and in some cases, overdue for Hall of Fame admission.  Better late than never, though!

Hope you have a fine week!  We'll look forward to seeing you once again next Sunday afternoon from 4-7PM.

"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 7/8/2018

The Dillards as the Darling Family (Dean Webb on far left)
In short, Sunday's Bluegrass Cafe included a bit of newer Bluegrass from 2018 (including brand new recordings from Tom Mindte & Mason Via as well as the Five Mile Mountain Band), a couple of birthday songs in honor of the late Charlie Louvin, and several songs in memory of Bluegrass Hall of Fame member, Dean Webb -- mandolin player and sometime-songwriter for the Dillards.  Hope you were able to join us!

Still Pickin'
Midway through the show, we also had a telephone chat with Jim Sharpley, banjo/Dobro player for the Still Pickin' band.   Jim told us all about an upcoming show the band is playing on July 14th at the Danielson Elks Club.  Hope to see you there!

We'll see you once again next Sunday afternoon, 4-7PM.  Have yourself a fine week!
