"Bluegrass Cafe" Playlist - 4/27/2008

It had been a while since Marti and I had hosted a non-Radiothon show on WHUS, so it was an interesting day getting back into the groove.

I had one unusual request to fulfill leftover from Radiothon: The person who pledged Bluegrass Cafe over our stretch goal did so on the condition I play my banjo on the air, so I completed that request by adding my own banjo part to "The Fox" by Nickel Creek. I always thought that group needed a banjo, so there it was.

I hope you enjoyed the rest of the show in spite of that request.

Remember, if you are listening over the Web, go back to whus.org and replace the link to the stream. WHUS has changed the link recently, and if you don't replace the old link with the new, you will not be able to listen over the Web.

Also, our permanent phone number during the show has been finalized as 860-486-9487.

Marti and I will be back next week, so we'd be mighty pleased if you tuned in.

Jim

"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 4/20/2008

Hello there -

It was a gorgeous day in eastern CT, so not sure how many folks were sitting at home listening to the radio. We played a whole lot of music on Sunday, as we hadn't been able to play too many tunes during the previous two weeks of Radiothon. Thanks again to all of you who pledged to the BG Cafe. In fact, with your pledges, you helped us become the biggest money-raising music program at WHUS!

We squeezed in some new music on Sunday from the Mashville Brigade (a group of Nashville superpickers, including Mountain Heart's Jim Van Cleve, as well as Aaron McDaris of the Grascals, among others), as well as a new duet recording from Jimmy Gaudreau & Moondi Klein, and a new gospel project from Larry Sparks. Hope you enjoyed something you heard somewhere along the way....

Jim & Marti are scheduled to join you for the next couple of weeks. Do tune in!

Amy

Update to earlier post -- BBU's Tyminski show is SOLD OUT!

Folks -

Unless you already have tickets for the Boston Bluegrass Union's show tomorrow night featuring Dan Tyminski, you won't be attending that concert. While this stinks for those who generally buy tickets last-minute at the door for BG events, it's great for the BBU and, of course, Mr. Tyminski. I suspect there will be many attendees at this show who are not "regular" supporters of BG, so how can that be terrible?

Up side here: there are still TWO other terrific BG events for you to pick from on Saturday, April 19th. Do attend at least one, won't you?

And for those who don't have tickets to tomorrow's BBU show, take heart. the Dan Tyminski Band is just one of the fabulous acts performing at the Jenny Brook BG Festival in Weston, VT June 26-29.

Some more cool premiums for Radiothon...

We have a couple of last-minute additions for our premium list for Radiothon 2008....

First is a one-day pass to Sunday's events at the Jenny Brook BG Festival in Weston, VT. The date is June 29th. Appearing on the bill that day will be three of New England's finest Bluegrass bands: Acoustic Blue, the Old Time Bluegrass Singers, and White Mountain Bluegrass. Also, you'll see (and hear!) Erin Gibson LaClair and her "band of brothers" (plus Mike Barber). We often get requests at the BG Cafe for the tune from the Gibson Brothers' "Bona Fide" CD that doesn't feature either Leigh or Eric on the lead vocals, but instead, it features their sister, Erin. If you're one of the folks who likes to hear "The Lighthouse," you just may be interested in picking up this pass as your premium. For more info on the terrific lineup at Jenny Brook this year, visit their website: http://www.jennybrookfestival.com/.

And speaking of Acoustic Blue, we have copies of both CDs that are currently available by this fine band from western Massachusetts: "Workin' Man" and "Empty House." We'll add these to our list of wonderful CDs available for a pledge from you....

Thanks to Candi Sawyer and Acoustic Blue for donating these items to WHUS. We hope you'll join us at 4PM on Sunday and help us reach our goal!

Thanks!!

One more special Radiothon premium...

It's not everyday that you get a chance to have an autographed poster of a Country Music Hall of Famer, is it? The nice folks at Blue Circle Records have donated this 16" x 22" signed and dated poster by Tom T. Hall that would look very nice framed and hanging on your wall, wouldn't it? We're thinking a pledge of $50 for this collector's item might be a nice way to go....

Lots Of Great Radiothon Premiums For You....

Hey Folks -

As promised, here's a list of CDs that we'll have to offer you as "thank you" gifts for your pledge to WHUS and Bluegrass Cafe beginning this Sunday, April 6th. Starting at 4PM, you'll have 3 hours to call us toll-free at 1-888-484-9948 and stake your claim to one of these discs, or other great things we'll have to offer you.

We know that times are tough, but we hope you'll consider giving us whatever you can...thanks!

And, thanks, too, to the great record labels who've contributed to our fundraising efforts: Mountain Home/Horizon, Rounder, Rebel, Sugar Hill, Blue Circle, Shell Point, Rural Rhythm, Mountain Redbird, and Copper Creek.

In addition to CDs, we have a few copies of the 2008 Copper Creek calendar. You may wonder why you'd need a 2008 calendar in April, but the information and photographs alone provided in these calendars can't be beat. The feature for the year is "The Women of Bluegrass."
