"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 10/27/2019

On the Sunday before Halloween, you know that we loaded our Bluegrass Cafe program with lots of ghostly, spooky Bluegrass tunes.  In addition, we paid tribute to several birthday celebrants, and even shared a little bit of new music, too.  Hope you were able to join us!
Scary song deserves a scary album cover.

Halloween is just four days away, and there are loads of spooky-sounding Bluegrass tunes that are especially appropriate to hear this time of year.  We included eighteen of these songs in Sunday's show, and could have played others.  Happy Halloween!

A couple of favorite Bluegrass performers celebrate birthdays this week, and so, we shared music from those folks, as well, including songs from the late Fred Pike (born 10/27/1932), Joe Mullins (born 10/27/1965), Martha Adcock (born 10/29/1949), and Bluegrass Hall of Famer Sonny Osborne (born 10/29/1937).
Expect new music from the Junior Sisk Band in 2020

There was still a little bit of time to share brand new music, too.  This time, that brand-new included songs from the Junior Sisk Band, Darin & Brooke Aldridge, and Steve Gulley & New Pinnacle.

Have a great week!

Amy O.

"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 10/20/2019

During Sunday's Bluegrass Café, we played a variety of Bluegrass, new and not-so-new, and included special tributes to the late Raymond Fairchild (March 15, 1939 - October 13, 2019), as well as a birthday tribute to Country Music Hall of Famer Grandpa Jones, who was born on October 20, 1913.

Lewis Marshall Jones was in his 20s when the "Grandpa" nickname was assigned to him, but he grew into that character over the years.  Grandpa may not have been a "Bluegrass" performer, but he was an entertainer who was featured on the Grand Ole Opry for many years, and he was a cast member of "Hee Haw" for a number of years, too.  During our Sunday tribute, we included a few songs performed by Grandpa Jones, as well as a couple of songs written by Grandpa Jones.  In addition, we included two songs from the Brown's Ferry Four -- a gospel quartet featuring Grandpa Jones, the Delmore Brothers, and (sometimes) Merle Travis.  Many songs found in the gospel catalog of Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver were taken there directly from the Brown's Ferry Four.

There was a tiny bit of brand-new music to share this week, as well, with selections from an upcoming recording by Sideline, and the debut recording of a new band known as Jeff Parker & Company.  Other 2019 releases included in Sunday's show were by Jason Barie, the Farm Hands, the Band Of Ruhks, the Mosley Brothers, the Grascals, the Po' Ramblin' Boys, and the Seldom Scene.

Hope you were able to join us, but if not, you'll have another opportunity to listen in next Sunday, 4-7PM.

Have a good week!

Amy O.

For brand-new music, we included a couple of songs from a soon-to-be-released CD by Volume Five.  There were lots of other 2019 selections, too, from Jesse McReynolds, the Garrett Newton Band, Band Of Ruhks, Jason Barie, the Po' Ramblin' Boys, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, Mile Twelve, Larry Sparks, Ralph Stanley II & the Clinch Mountain Boys, the Edgar Loudermilk Band, and Audie Blaylock & Redline.

Hope you can join us once again next Sunday afternoon, 4-7PM.

Have a great week!

"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 10/6/2019

After a quick visit last week to Raleigh, North Carolina for what I call "IBMA Lite," I returned to WHUS today for a fun edition of our Bluegrass Cafe.   Big thanks to James Ward and his mom, Cathy, for hosting the program last Sunday.  Hope you were able to join them...

The show today started with music from a few different IBMA award-winners for 2019, including selections from Sideline, the Rick Lang gospel collection (featuring Claire Lynch, among others), the Del McCoury Band, Missy Raines, and IBMA Entertainers of the Year, Joe Mullins & the Radio Ramblers.

A whole lot of new music has made its way to WHUS since I was last at the station two weeks ago.  To that end, we shared new music from Rick Faris, Williamson Branch, the Garrett Newton Band, Jesse McReynolds & Friends, the Chatham Rabbits, the Band of Ruhks, John Bowman, and Lake Side.

And we couldn't resist sharing a few songs in honor of the September 26th birth anniversary of Country Music Hall of Famer, Marty Robbins.  Several songs of his have been recorded in a Bluegrass style, so why not remember the fine music of a legend while we can?

Hope you enjoyed the show this week, and that you will consider joining us once again next Sunday, 4-7PM.

Enjoy the week!

Amy O.
