"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 6/26/2022

As we do on occasion, for this past Sunday's Bluegrass Cafe, we chose to spend a little bit of time spotlighting performers whose surname or band name begins with a certain letter of the alphabet.  For no particular reason, this week's spotlight letter was an "S."  To that end, we included 20+ songs from several "S" performers, including Larry SparksShannon Slaughter, Valerie Smith & Liberty Pike, Special ConsensusSister Sadie, the Larry Stephenson Band, Seldom Scene, the Spinney Brothers, and quite a few more.

We also celebrated a couple of Bluegrass birthdays, including that of the late Hall of Fame fiddler Kenny Baker (June 26, 1926 - July 8, 2011).  We also belatedly celebrated the birthday of another super-innovative banjo picker and Bluegrass Hall of Famer, Eddie Adcock (born June 21, 1938).

And we remembered James Reams, a musician who was a wonderful ambassador for Bluegrass both in the northeast and the southwest.

Hope you were able to join us on Sunday, but if not, you've got another chance coming up this Sunday from 4-7PM.  See you then.

Enjoy the week!

Amy O.

"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 6/19/2022

We had ourselves an overstuffed Bluegrass Cafe on this Father's Day!  As you might expect, we included a few songs about fathers (not half as many as we could have possibly played!), plus songs performed by Bluegrass fathers and their sons and daughters.  In addition, there was a little bit of new music, and for good measure, we also celebrated the 108th birth anniversary of the one and only Lester Flatt (June 19, 1914 - May 11, 1979).  Phew!

There are lots of Bluegrass families, and we heard from several of them, including those with the last names of Amos, Armistead, Cox, Dailey, Emerson, Feinberg, Harrell, McCoury, McGee, Monroe, Mullins, Paisley, Parmley, Pike, Reno, and Stanley.

There was new or recent music, too, from Mickey Galyean & Cullen's Bridge, Blue Highway, Kathy Kallick, Junior Sisk, Unspoken Tradition, and the Gibson Brothers.

And we remembered a wonderful lady who was a steady presence and wonderful supporter of Bluegrass promoters and performers, alike:  Etta Crawford (August 20, 1942 - June 11, 2022).

Hope you dads enjoyed your Father's Day.  Please consider joining me once again one week from today from 4-7PM.

Enjoy the week!

"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 6/12/2022

Sunday's Bluegrass Cafe playlist featured no particular plan, although we did play a good bit of newer music, along with a couple of songs about Flag Day, and four songs in honor of the 80th birthday of a true music legend, Sir Paul McCartney.

There was a whole bunch of new Bluegrass to share from long-time veterans and new performers, too.  To that end, there were new recordings from David Parmley, Seth Mulder & Midnight Run, Marty Raybon, the Tim Raybon Band, Jeff Brown & Still Lonesome, Casey Penn, and Audie Blaylock.  In addition, there was music from recent recordings by Laura Orshaw, Authentic Unlimited, and the Tennessee Bluegrass Band.

Hope you were able to join us on Sunday, but if not this week, we'll look forward to having you join us for another new show this Sunday.

Enjoy the week!

"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 6/5/2022

Nearly one-half of all of the songs we shared during Sunday's Bluegrass Cafe were played in celebration of someone's birthday.  We also included some newer music during our three-hour program, so hope you were able to join us.

Most of the selections played during Hour #1 of Sunday's show were written and/or co-written by the late power couple of Tom T. Hall (May 25, 1936 - August 20, 2021) and Miss Dixie Hall (May 26, 1934 - January 16, 2015).  The songs they wrote together or separately are noted in green bold print on the  playlist below.  To say these two late members of the Bluegrass Hall of Fame were prolific songwriters seems a bit of an understatement, and in truth, we could easily fill the whole three hours with songs written by only them.  On Sunday, we just limited ourselves to one hour.

There were lots of early June birthdays to celebrate, too, including those of Hazel Dickens, Suzanne Cox, Tony Rice, Clarence White, Charlie Cline, Jamie Dailey, and even the lead singer and main songwriter of the Statler Brothers, Don Reid.

Newer music was heard was heard, as well, from the likes of Lorraine Jordan & Carolina Road, Laura Orshaw, Authentic Unlimited, Rick Lang, the Po' Ramblin' Boys, and Peter Rowan.

Hope you were able to join us on Sunday, but if not, you'll have another chance this weekend.  We'll see you at 4PM.

Enjoy the week!
