"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 7/27/2025

Some weeks, I go to WHUS on Sunday afternoons with a start-to-finish plan of what music we're going to play for you during our three-hour Bluegrass Cafe broadcast.  Other weeks, I haven't a clue.  This past Sunday, I leaned more toward the latter category, but I think everything turned out okay.  Hope you agree!

There was a little bit of newer music from the likes of the great Larry Sparks, as well as Becky Buller's new project of covers.  We also shared recent music from Red Camel Collection, the Seldom Scene, Seth Mulder & Midnight Run, Danny Paisley, Joe Mullins & the Radio Ramblers, Amy Gallatin & Roger Williams, Rick Faris, Missy Raines & Allegheny, Laura Orshaw, and the Kody Norris Show.

Thanks for joining me on Sunday.  We'll see you again tomorrow afternoon from 4-7PM for another edition of our Bluegrass Cafe.

See you then!

Amy O.

"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 7/20/2025

Our Bluegrass Cafe this past Sunday began with lots of music from two of the three newest members of the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame -- two wonderful bands which began in the 1970s and continued making wonderful records for the next several decades:  the Bluegrass Cardinals and Hot Rize.  Such fabulous music was created by all of these gentlemen, and how wonderful that members of each band still continue to create fine music for all of us to enjoy.  While we have always shared music from these performers during our Bluegrass Cafe shows, we'll emphasize each band a bit more as we get closer to their official HoF induction ceremonies in September at IBMA.  Congratulations to both bands!

Also, congratulations to the third posthumous 2025 inductee to the Bluegrass Hall of Fame -- someone whose influence was important to the beginnings of Bluegrass Music and especially to the Father of Bluegrass Music (Bill Monroe, of course!).  Arnold Shultz and his music were important early influences to Bill Monroe, and while Mr. Shultz never recorded, his music has lived on through our Bluegrass music.

Staying in the Hall of Fame "theme" a bit, we celebrated the July birthdays of several important members of the Bluegrass Hall of Fame:  Sara Carter (July 21, 1898 - January 8, 1979), Foggy Mountain Boy Jake Tullock (July 23, 1923 - June 18, 1988), Bobby Hicks (July 21, 1933 - August 16, 2024), and Alison Krauss (born July 23, 1971).

And, of course, new music was heard as well, from several performers, including Junior Sisk, Nick Chandler & Delivered, a band called Throwback Thursday, Hammertowne, and the late Bobby Osborne & C.J. Lewandowski & Friends.

Hope you're able to join us once again this Sunday afternoon from 4-7PM for another edition of our Bluegrass Cafe!

Until then, enjoy the weekend!

Amy O.

"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 7/13/2025

Sunday's Bluegrass Cafe included lots of fine music, as you might expect.  Specifically, we heard some brand-new from a couple of different performers, including several selections from Connecticut's own Amy Gallatin & Roger Williams.  We also celebrated several July birthdays, so it was a full three-hours.

The July birthdays included a couple that were celebrated exactly on June 13th:  those of Mike Barber (a/k/a "The Third Gibson Brother"), the late Larry McPeak, and the Queen of Bluegrass, Rhonda Vincent.  Other July celebrants from whom we shared music include Wayne Taylor (of Wayne Taylor & Appaloosa fame), and Bluegrass Hall of Fame members Richard Underwood (long-time banjo player with the Johnson Mountain Boys) and Ricky Skaggs.  Happy Birthday to all!

New music selections came as singles from forthcoming recordings by the
Tennessee Bluegrass Band, Dale Ann Bradley, and Danny Roberts.  We also heard selections from recently-released recordings by Seth Mulder & Midnight Run, Joe Mullins & the Radio Ramblers, the Kody Norris Show, Rrinaco, Carson Peters & Iron Mountain, Missy Raines & Allegheny, and Danny Paisley.  We also shared several selections from the brand-new recording by Connecticut performers, Amy Gallatin & Roger Williams.  Hope you were able to join us.

We look forward to our next visit with you this coming Sunday afternoon.  Please tune in from 4-7PM, won't you?

Enjoy the weekend!

Amy O.

P.S.  The "worts & all" broadcast -- as we learn how to navigate our shiny new soundboard -- can be heard for two weeks after each broadcast.  To listen to this particular show, here's the link that will remain in effect until July 27th.
