"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 7/5/2020

Happy July 5th!  America may have celebrated birthday #244 yesterday, but we continued the festivities as we opened this week's pre-recorded edition of our Bluegrass Cafe.  While we don't have access to the full WHUS Bluegrass library of recordings for these home-made broadcasts of the show, we cobbled together a few appropriate tunes that we had on-hand in honor of America, including four versions of a song the Country Gentlemen first recorded in June of 1959:  "New Freedom Bell."

Our twelfth recorded show also included several selections from a few of the newest members of Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame, the Johnson Mountain Boys.  No need to gush here, as any listener to this broadcast knows I am a devoted fan of JMB, and rarely (if ever) get through a radio show without sharing their music.  Nothing will change.

Put Charlie Louvin's 2012
autobiography on your Summer reading list
As we did in April for the birth anniversary of Ira Louvin, for this week's show, we devoted a full hour plus to more Louvin music in honor of the birth anniversary of Charlie Louvin (born July 7, 1927).  There may be some repeats from the April broadcast to this one, but really, who can get tired of hearing the music of the Louvin Brothers?  Not me.

A newish New England band has a new CD on the way, too:  Rock Hearts.  We shared a selection from this new recording on today's broadcast, and we'll likely be hearing a lot more from the band in future.  Other 2020 music we heard came from Fred Travers on "The New Reso Gathering," J.B. & Jamie Dailey, High Fidelity, and the Feinberg Brothers.

Hope you've all had an enjoyable holiday weekend -- even if was a bit quieter than usual.  Feel free to check in with us when you can via email to bgcafe@gmail.com or give our Facebook page a like.

Have a great week, and stay healthy!

Amy O.
