Since this week happens to be my birthday, too, I took the liberty of playing a few selections from Country Music Hall of Fame members, the Statler Brothers. Both original tenor Lew DeWitt and his replacement, Jimmy Fortune, were born in the same month (Lew on March 12, 1938, and Jimmy on March 11, 1955). Although I have been a fan of the Statlers' music for almost four decades, I know darn well that playing their music on a show devoted to Bluegrass Music doesn't normally work so well. Still, I could find a couple of Statler tunes recorded by two more huge Statler fans (Dailey & Vincent) to share, and even a little semi-Bluegrass-flavored tune the Statlers themselves recorded in 1972.
