"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 7/19/2015

Sunday's radio show began Bluegrass versions of a few songs that Jim had played during his 2-hour broadcast of the old-time Red Rooster Party.  It's always neat to hear an original version of a song and then, the Bluegrass version that followed it.

was published in 2014.

We belatedly celebrated the birthdays of three Bluegrassers who celebrated their birthdays on July 18th:  Wayne Taylor (born 7/18/1952), Ricky Skaggs (born 7/18/1954), and Jesse Brock (born 7/18/1972).  To that end, we played one song each from Wayne Taylor and Jesse Brock, as well as a couple of songs featuring Ricky Skaggs from recordings he made with Keith Whitley, the Country Gentlemen, J.D. Crowe & the New South, and Ralph Stanley.

There was time for some newer music from the Feinberg Brothers, Sideline, the Seth Sawyer Band, Lorraine Jordan & Carolina Road, Dale Ann Bradley, Chris Jones & the Night Drivers, the Gibson Brothers, Bear Minimum, Big Country Bluegrass, and Feller & Hill.  Another "new" recording is one that was recorded in 2012, but has not been made available until this year:  Merle Haggard & Mac Wiseman's "Timeless," available only from Cracker Barrel.  This last record IS NOT a pure Bluegrass recording, but given the legendary status of both singers and the instrumentation from many wonderful Bluegrass performers, this is certainly a worthy Bluegrass-friendly recording.  We'll be listening to more of it in future shows, no doubt.
