This was the last Bluegrass Cafe of the WHUS summer schedule, and we are happy to report that we will continue in the fall at the same time, 4-7pm ET on Sundays. Also, if you are into older string band and early country music, Jim & Marti's Red Rooster Party will be back in its time of 2-4pm Sundays just prior to Bluegrass Cafe when not preempted by UCONNed sports.
We celebrated the birthdays of J. D. Crowe and Carter Stanley with sets of their music and included new music from J. D.'s latest collaboration with Doyle Lawson and Paul Williams.
We also remembered banjo picker Greg Corbett who died unexpectedly the day before the show. Greg had been a significant presence in the later Country Gentlemen with Charlie Waller, and had gone on to play and record with CG alumni in The Circuit Riders after Charlie's death.
New music included a track by Scott Walker from The Patuxent Banjo Project, a song from Al Jones & The Spruce Mountain Boys, Tom Mindte, Steve Gulley, Turning Ground, and the new album from Ohio group Nightflyer which we featured.
We also introduced the new collaboration between classic soul singer Sam Moore (Sam & Dave) and Siler City NC group Nu-Blu (who had just played the local Podunk festival a couple of weeks ago.)
The Heritage Corner produced some rarities for this show including vinyl from Everett Alan Lilly & Don Stover; old 45s from Buzz Busby & Leon Morris; Fred Pike, Bill Rawlings & the Twin River Boys; The Wilson Brothers (from Georgia); and Jimmie Williams & Red Ellis. We also played some great re-releases from Charlie Moore & Bill Napier, and Carl Story.
Amy will make the banjos and fiddles ring next Sunday, so don't forget to tune in.
