"Bluegrass Cafe" Playlist - 10/28/2012

Hi Folks.

With Halloween looming, a few songs with ghostly and ghoulish themes showed up in this playlist, such as Ted Lundy's "It Rained A Mist" (suggested last year by Dick Bowden), "Simpson's Holler" by Valerie Smith, the "Long Black Veil" sequel from Akira Otsuka called "Long Black Jacket," "Arkansas Line" from The Earl Brothers, Larry Cordle's "Pud Marcum's Hangin'," the classic "Bringing Mary Home" from Eddie and Martha Adcock, and for fun, The Stanley Brothers' "My Long Skinny Lanky Sarah Jane."

Early in the show we had an in-studio visit from Laura LaCour and Nanette Addesso, the lead and backup singers respectively of a new stage production called "Always... Patsy Cline" which features 27 numbers, nearly all Patsy Cline songs.  Laura and Nanette performed one of Patsy's songs, "Leavin' On Your Mind," to give us a hint of what is in store, and it was fine indeed.  This show is not to be missed.  A production of The Windham Theatre Guild, the show plays in Willimantic at the Burton Leavitt Theatre, 779 Main Street November 9, 10, 11, 15, 16, & 17 after opening the 2nd and 3rd.

We remembered Connie Gately with his song "Home Is Where The Heart Is" following his death earlier in the week.

J.E. Mainer (1898-1971) made a musical appearance to celebrate his induction into the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame October 11th -- an event I was fortunate to attend.

New music abounded including songs from Danny Paisley, Grasstowne, Lonesome River Band, Cumberland Gap Connection, Joe Mullins & The Radio Ramblers, David Peterson, Volume Five, Jett's Creek, Larry Gillis, Ricky Skaggs, and the surprising debut of Ashley Lilly, granddaughter of Everett Lilly, with The Sleepy Man Banjo Boys.

The Heritage Corner archives, besides the aforementioned Ted Lundy and J.E. Mainer songs, provided music from The Blue Sky Boys (Bill Bolick's birthday 10/28), Red Smiley, and Red White & His Dixie Blue Grass Band.

Amy will be with you the first Sunday in November, so be sure to tune in to hear the banjos and fiddles ring.
