Sunday's Bluegrass Cafe was our first of this new semester to be shortened by a UConn Sports preemption. Still, we crammed a whole lot of fine music into our two hours on the last Sunday of August.
As this is Labor Day weekend -- the unofficial ending of the Summer season -- we started the program with eight songs related to the working man and woman. Hope you're having an enjoyable holiday weekend! We also continued the 100th birthday celebration of the great Carter Glen Stanley (August 27, 1925 - December 1, 1966). During his lifetime, Carter was credited with writing right around 100 songs -- many of which have become Bluegrass standards. We shared several covers of Stanley material in our second and final hour on Sunday, including both secular and gospel material. We also remembered the late August birthdays of Jeanette Williams (born August 28, 1965) and Shawn Camp (born August 29, 1966).
With a shorter show, there wasn't much new music to share, but we did include songs from two new projects recently released by Mountain Fever Records from Volume Five, East Nash Grass, and the Gospel Plowboys.
Enjoy the week, and we hope to join you for another three-hour edition of our Bluegrass Cafe next Sunday.
