Our last Bluegrass Cafe for November 2020 was mainly a freeform show, but included a few songs of thanks, two or three new Christmas selections for this season, and a couple of songs in farewell to a country singer who passed this week. Hope you enjoyed your Thanksgiving!
Generally -- at least at my house, anyway -- the Christmas season doesn't really begin until the day after Thanksgiving. Truth be told, though, I will listen to Christmas music any time of year, but I don't generally share it on the radio until after Thanksgiving. To that end, we will be sharing Bluegrass Christmas songs for the next several weeks during our program time, and will include newer music, too. Earlier this year, Connecticut's own Amy Gallatin decided to put together a record of holiday favorites. She calls her CD, "'Tis The Season," and we shared two selections from the recording during today's show. We also included new Christmas music from Darin & Brooke Aldridge.
On the day this show was recorded, we learned of the passing of country/Americana performer, Hal Ketchum (April 9, 1953 - November 23, 2020). This singer/songwriter had a couple of big hits in the country music world in the early 1990s and was a member of the Grand Ole Opry. We remembered him with a Bluegrass cover of perhaps Hal Ketchum's best-known song, as well as a song that Hal recorded with Ralph Stanley on Ralph's "Clinch Mountain Country" collection. Rest in peace.
