"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 5/5/2019

Sunday's show was one for remembering a Bluegrass Hall of Famer and introducing a whole lot of new music.  Hope you were able to tune in for a bit, at least.

John Starling with Ben Eldredge & Tom Gray
Bluegrass Hall of Fame induction
Raleigh, NC
October 2, 2014
On May 2nd, one of the founding members of the Seldom Scene -- Dr. John Starling -- died at the age of 79.  Starling's manner of singing was not in the "high lonesome" style, and in that way, he was able to spark an interest in Bluegrass for some who may not have otherwise had any interest in the music.  In 2014, the Bluegrass Hall of Fame inducted Starling into it's ranks, along with other original Seldom Scene-ers Mike Auldridge and Ben Eldredge (other Seldom Scene founders John Duffey and Tom Gray had been inducted into the Bluegrass Hall of Fame earlier with the "classic" grouping of Country Gentlemen).  Though John Starling had not made records in recent years, his influence will be forever felt in the world of Bluegrass music.

Sunday also happened to be a major day for sharing new Bluegrass music, as we debuted selections from Nu-Blu, Jerry Salley, Irene Kelley, Merle Monroe, Aaron Bibelhauser, Buddy Melton & Milan Miller, Blue Moon Rising, Sally Berry, and Ronnie Bowman

Hope you enjoyed our program today.  Please consider joining us once more next Sunday afternoon, 4-7PM.

Have a good week!
