"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 8/28/2016

Sunday was another move-in day at the University of Connecticut, and so, the quiet and peace of the campus during the Summer is over.  Oh well.  Even though it was more of a challenge than normal to get into the station, we still played a whole bunch of great music.  Hope you agree!

Happy Birthday, J.D. Crowe!

We had a couple of birthdays to celebrate during Sunday's program, and how better to do that than by sharing their music?  Among the birthday celebrants were two Bluegrass Hall of Famers:  the late Carter Stanley (born August 27, 1925), as well as J.D Crowe (born August 27, 1937).  In addition, we included one song from Jeannette Williams, who celebrates her birthday on August 28th.  

New music played a good part in Sunday's show, too.  We included music from really new recordings by Blue Highway, the Price Sisters, and Adam Steffey, as well as newer music from the Earls Of Leicester, Edgar Loudermilk, Audie Blaylock & Redline, Junior Sisk & Ramblers Choice, Mickey Galyean & Cullen's Bridge, Travers Chandler, and Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver.  

Sunday also seemed like a good day to feature a bunch of music from the always-enjoyable Country Gentlemen.  I'll be honest:  the Country Gents were one of the most often-played bands around my house as I was growing up, so their music ranks very high on my "favorites" list.  Charlie Waller's warm and rich voice is always pleasing to my ear, no matter which grouping of Country Gentlemen I happen to be listening to at any particular moment.  Thanks to YouTube, though, and viewing several clips from a reunion performance by this CG configuration, I mostly focused on the "Award Winning Country Gentlemen" of the early 1970s today (Charlie Waller with Doyle Lawson, Bill Emerson, and Bill Yates).  Hope you enjoyed their music...'cause you'll keep on hearing it at our Bluegrass Cafe!
