Playlist - 11/15/2015 - South Carolina Broadcasters

Hi Folks.
David, Andy, and Ivy

The centerpiece of today's show was an interview with Andy Edmonds and Ivy Sheppard who, along with David Sheppard, are The South Carolina Broadcasters.  The group made a big impression at Strawberry Park in 2014 and were invited back in 2015.  They are on the schedule for Podunk in 2016.

The Broadcasters play a type of music between old-time and bluegrass that they call "primitive bluegrass."  It draws heavily on the old-time canon while incorporating bluegrass songs and sensibilities and their unique 3-part harmony.  They have a new album that was released on CD and electronically last month, and LP very soon.

We also played new music from Alan Bibey  & Grasstowne; The Grass Cats; Bill Runkle & Smith Hollow; Bear Minimum; Russell Moore & IIIrd Tyme Out; and David Peterson.

Heritage Corner bluegrass included The Stanley Brothers, Chief Powatan, Carl Story, Charlie Moore, Hack Johnson, Doc Watson, Jimmie Williams & Red Ellis, The Renfro Family, and Vern Williams.

We gave away two pairs of tickets to lucky listeners for the Chris Thile concert at Jorgensen next Saturday evening, and fielded a bunch of phone calls. Thank you to all who called in.

Amy will be with you next Sunday to make the banjos and fiddles ring, so don't miss it.
