Starting with the birthday tributes, we included a whole bunch of music from the pen and/or vocal performance of the Father of Bluegrass Music, Bill Monroe (born September 13, 1911), as well as several selections from the song catalog of the one and only Hank Williams, who would have celebrated his birthday on September 17th (born on that date in 1923).
Since it is the "busy season" for new Bluegrass recordings -- the International Bluegrass Music
Association's World of Bluegrass event takes place in Raleigh, NC at the end of this month -- we have received bunches of them over the last couple of weeks. On Sunday, we shared a few songs from those new projects, really even before we had a chance to preview them! Great stuff, all around, and we will surely look forward to hearing more of these new projects from established acts like Junior Sisk & Ramblers Choice and Joe Mullins & the Radio Ramblers, special event recordings from Mike Auldridge, Jerry Douglas, & Rob Ickes and the Flatt & Scruggs all-star tribute band known as the Earls of Leicester, and New England Bluegrass veteran, Bob Dick. All of it sounded quite wonderful -- can't wait to hear these full projects!
Hope you have a terrific week, and be sure to join Marti for next week's Bluegrass Cafe!
